Allegro

·  Make sure battery is charged

o  Charge day before use

§  To charge, place circle end of charger in Allegro

§  The indicator light will tell you how charged the machine is, the 5th circle means full charge

·  IMPORTANT: The Allegro uses a touch screen, only use the provided stylus, or your fingernail on the screen, otherwise you may scratch the screen

·  To turn on and off the Allegro, Press the “On/Off” button on the bottom right hand of the keypad

o  You do NOT have to hit “Start” and then “Shutdown” like with a normal computer

·  To decrease the contrast of the screen

o  Hit the “Gold-colored” button and then “F4”

·  To increase the contrast of the screen

o  Hit the “Gold-colored” button and the “F5”

·  To turn on the backlight

o  Hit the “Gold-colored” button and then “F3”

§  Be careful, because this can drain the battery very quickly

·  To disable and re-activate the touch screen

o  Hit the “Blue-colored” button and “BkSp”

·  To adjust Auto-Turn Off function

o  Go to Start | Control Panel | Power | Power Off

·  To open an existing file

o  Open Ptab by double clicking on the icon on the Desktop of Allegro, then hit File | Open | and double click on the file you need to open

·  To enter Severity Data

o  Keep the file simple so that the Allegro will run faster, if you get too large of a file, Allegro will be VERY slow

o  Generally the Severity file will have a column for Inoculation Date, one column for Pot Number, and one column for Severity. Once this data is Downloaded to a Desktop computer, additional columns can be added

o  Ptab, Allegro’s version of Excel, does not support fractions, so you must enter severity as 10/18 and convert later in Excel

o  To enter severity, enter 10, hit the “blue-colored” button and the “. /” button to make a “/” and then 18

o  To save a file either go to File | Save or hit the Disk button on the tool bar

o  You don’t need to close the file before you turn off the Allegro. Allegro will automatically turn off after a set number of minutes, if this happens data will NOT be lost

·  To download data from the Allegro to a computer

o  Attach the 9-pin plug labeled “Allegro Connection” into the Allegro COM1

o  Double click “PC Link” on the Allegro’s Desktop

§  This may take several times to make the connection

o  Once connected, a pop-up box will ask if you want to sync data, hit NO

o  Now, Right-Click on the Start Menu of the Computer, Click on “Explore”, “Mobile Devices”, and find the file you wish to download

o  Copy the file and Paste it into the appropriate folder on the Computer

·  To Upload data from a computer to the Allegro

o  Attach the 9-pin plug labeled “Allegro Connection” into the Allegro COM1

o  Double click “PC Link” on the Allegro’s Desktop

§  This may take several times to make the connection

o  Once connected, a pop-up box will ask if you want to sync data, hit NO

o  Now, Right-Click on the Start Menu of the Computer, Click on “Explore”, and find the file you wish to upload

o  Copy the file and Paste it into the appropriate folder on the Allegro

·  To get data into useable form:

o  Highlight column with #infected/Total #

o  Go to “Data” and Hit “Text to Columns”

·  Click on “Delimited” and Hit “Next”

·  Under Delimiters Click “Other” and enter “/” into box beside other. This tells the computer what numbers to break apart into two columns.

·  Hit “Finish”

·  Now you will have 2 columns. One with # Infected and one with total #.

·  To get severity, in a third column
