About The North East Equality Awards / The North East Equality Awards recognise and reward those employers, learning providers and individuals who strive to ensure that good equality and diversity practices are implemented in the work place thereby improving recruitment and retention for people from diverse groups.
To be recognised as such an employer not only brings with it positive publicity, improving reputation and image but also real business benefits. Previous winners and short-listed applicants are excellent examples of how good policies and procedures lead to increased chances of winning contracts, better staff retention rates and a greater chance of finding the right people to do the job.
The award, open to Voluntary and Community Sector as well as the Private Sector and Public Sector who can show that they have made an outstanding contribution in promoting equality and diversity in the community.
When evaluating applicants within this category the judges will be looking for initiatives, projects or strategies that, by their considerationachieve one or more of the following:
  • Encourage participation of under-represented groups in the labour market
  • Increase the pace of E&D engagement within the public sector organisations
  • Increase awareness and engagement of E&D within private sector organisations
  • Ensure that the procurement process effectively takes account of the E&D agenda for clients and suppliers.
