UNICEF’s Internal Communication & Knowledge Sharing team is seeking a Communication Officer to work with its country offices in fostering a culture of knowledge sharing & strategic internal communication. Since rolling out the revamped intranet in 2009 and then re-launching it in 2014 on the SharePoint platform, the team has been managing the editorial content provisioning for the UNICEF Intranet, which is a key source of knowledge and information for UNICEF staff dispersed globally.

Main Responsibilities

  • Maintains a network of internal communication focal points in UNICEF`s global offices to ensure relevant documents and lessons learned are sourced and shared on UNICEF`s intranet platform for access by all staff.
  • Provides capacity development support and normative guidance to headquarter divisions, country and regional offices, as requested or required.
  • Responsible for working with country and regional offices to create communication best practices and lessons learned knowledge documents, supporting UNICEF`s programming and policy initiatives globally.
  • Works with UNICEF’s global offices to create case studies on various Communication topics and acts as a Project lead on Communication Knowledge Compendium.
  • Creates an Internal Communication Plan for highlighting and educating staff on the UNICEF’s Gender Action Plan.
  • Initiates an Internal Communication Plan for the celebration of UNICEF’s 70th Anniversary.
  • Creates and implements an Internal Communication Plan to make UNICEF’s intranet disabled access friendly.
  • Manages the internal mobile app, including strategies to engage more staff to use the platform.
  • Acts as focal point for communication purposes with interested stakeholders fostering two-way communication
  • Creates and disseminates internal communication products such as internal stories from country offices, Global Broadcast Messages, newsletters, blog posts, FAQs, PowerPoint presentations, and webinars, etc.

Minimum Qualification

  • Advanced university degree in communications, international relations/public affairs, journalism, marketing, public relations, political science or other related disciplines; or equivalent professional work experience, combined with a first university degree in a related discipline.
  • At least three years of professional work experience in working with SharePoint, expertise in Office Suite, awareness of softwares such as AdobePhotoShop and Publishing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and presentation skills.
  • Must have strong people skills and be a good communicator.
  • Must be very well organized and detail oriented.
  • Knowledge of contemporary development issues, developing country and programme exposure from field experience, and familiarity with child-related and UNICEF issues, including child rights.
  • Experience with work in a non-profit organization a plus.
  • Fluency in English; another UN language is an asset.
