This scholarship fund has been established to assist applicants to undertake governance training as part of an agreed Governance Development Plan and Continued Professional Development in governance

Criteria

  1. Scholarships will be offered on the basis of the applicants:

·Clearly demonstrable commitment to governance

·Contribution to business and the community

·Clearly demonstrated Governance Development Plan

  1. Scholarships may be awarded annually.

3.Scholarships will contribute up to a maximum of $3,000 or 50%, this provides some flexiblility in respect of programme selection of the identified governance training programme, which should be selected from the current IoD suite of governance training programmes. Applicants are expected to complete the identified training programme within the agreed timeframe. Failure to do so may result in repayment of the scholarship. The Scholarship will be paid directly to the training provider by the Waikato Branch of the Institute of Directors.

4.To be eligible to apply for the Scholarship candidates must meet the following conditions:

·Have a minimum of three years’ relevant work experience at a senior management or Director level

·Be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand

·Applicants must demonstrate how the scholarship would assist with the development of their governance career.

·Must demonstrate their contribution to governance within the Waikato

·Be a resident of Waikato

5.Scholarships will be awarded on the recommendation of a Selection Panel, which may include the Chair of the Finance committee, and a representative from the external funders.

6.The Selection Panel may refrain from making a recommendation if it finds no candidate of sufficient merit.

7.Applicants should submit a Governance Development Scholarship Application Form, their reason for wishing to undertake this study and their curriculum vitae.

8.Calls for Scholarship applications will be made twice a year. Details will be advertised in advance and also displayed on the IoD and Waikato Chamber of Commerce website.

9.Applicants will be advised in writing following the closing date. The Selection Panel may require applicants to attend aninterview

10.The offer of a Scholarship must be accepted by the date indicated in the letter of offer. If any candidate declines a Scholarship or does not take it up, the Selection Panel may offer the Scholarship to another person. A scholarship shall be taken up in the year for which it is offered.

11.The Recipient may be required to present a short summary of the conclusion of their study to a nominated audience.
