NOMINATION INFORMATION FORM

After a thrilling 2 weeks from the Wimbledon Championships Welsh tennis is on the search to commemorate our own stars from all areas of the game both on and off the court.

Over the past 12 months we have continued to increase our membership to over 14,000 players based across our 97 Places to Play. We also have hundreds of coaches/volunteers who make tennis accessible at the heart of our communities. Tennis in Wales can also boast having some of the biggest Primary, Secondary and Team competitions in the UK with over 7000 participants. On the performance front Evan Hoyt has continued his success from last year by winning the Junior Davis Cup with the GB team andreaching the Semi Finals of the Junior Doubles at Wimbledon, he currently has ajunior ITF ranking of 88.

Once again we are looking to celebrate the success of inspirational people within our sport in 2012.

Help us highlightachievements throughout the sport in Wales in the following categories:

  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Tennis Club/Centre of the Year
  • Performance Coach of the Year
  • Development Coach of the Year
  • Team of the Year
  • Player of the Year
  • Local Authority Contribution
  • Outstanding Contribution to Tennis in Wales

The winners will be announced at our annual awards ceremony in the autumn, and so we need your nominations for who you feel deserves to be rewarded for their talent and dedication during the past year. You must ensure you have the permission of the person you are nominating before submitting the form.

The closing date for the return of nomination forms is Wednesday29th August, 2012. Forms must be returned to:

For the first seven awards listed below, the top three finalists and winner in each award category will be chosen by anIndependent Awards Panel with all finalists being invited to attend the Tennis Wales Awards evening at Tennis Wales’ expense. The winner of each award category will be announced on the night. For the ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award the panel will just select a winner who again will be announced on the night.

The Categories are:

  1. Volunteer of the Year – open to any age, male or female. Nominees must be a member of a Tennis Wales affiliated tennis club/centre. Nominees could be:

i)Club team captains

ii)Club/county committee members

iii)Junior team organisers

iv)Unpaid groundstaff

v)Club tournament co-ordinators

vi)Club fundraisers

  1. Tennis Club/Centre of the Year – nominees must be a Tennis Wales affiliated club/centre. This award will recognise clubs/centres which have made great strides in the past year. Factors that will be taken into consideration will include the strength of the club’s membership; facility developments; the number of regularly competing juniors; the number of British Tennis Members; Clubmark accreditation; the strength of the development and performance programme; disability tennis opportunities; the successful introduction of a new club in a previously barren tennis environment; or a club that has made significant community links with primary and/or secondary schools and other community groups.
  1. Performance Coach of the Year – this category is open to any qualified tennis coach who fits the following criteria:

i)Nominees must be over 17 years of age and must be born or reside in Wales.

ii)Nominees must have demonstrated success at developing performance players at county, national, or international level

iii)Nominees must hold the Master Performance or Master Club qualification, the Senior Performance or Senior Club,or the equivalent previous LTA qualifications.

iv)Nominees must have a current licence.

v)Coaches who are based at Welsh tennis clubs or Welsh indoor tennis centres are eligible

  1. Development Coach of the Year – this category is open to any qualified tennis coach who fits the following criteria:

i)Nominees must be over 17 years of age and must be born or reside in Wales.

ii)Nominees must hold the LTA Coaches Award,Senior Club or Senior Performance Coaches Award or the equivalent previous LTA qualifications.

iii)Nominees must have demonstrated success in growing the game, increasing tennis activity, and positively building their Place To Play tennis.

iv)Nominees must have a current licence.

v)Coaches who are based at Welsh tennis clubs or Welsh indoor tennis centres are eligible.

  1. Team of the Year – this category is aimed at recognising tennis playing teams who have had an outstanding 2011/12. They may be senior or junior club/centre teams who have remained unbeaten in their division/league;club/centre teams who have gained promotion a number of years running; senior, junior or veterans county teams; mini tennis teams; Welsh university/college teams; senior, junior or veterans Welsh national teams.
  1. Player/Disability Player of the Year – this category is open to male or female players (senior or junior), including players with a physical or learning disability,who fit into any one of the categories below:

i)Have played competitively at county, national or international standard (within able-bodied or disability events).

ii)Have an ITF Junior World ranking.

iii)Have a European Junior ranking.

iv)Have a WTA/ATP world ranking.

Players must be eligible to represent Wales.

  1. Local Authority Contribution to Tennis in Wales – this category is open to:

i)Any of the 22 unitary authorities in Wales who have made a significant contribution to the sport of tennis in the past year.

  1. Outstanding Contribution to Tennis in Wales – this category is open to:

i)Any person who has made a significant contribution to tennis in Wales at a club, school, county or national level.

ii)Any person who has represented Wales on court over many years - either as a team member or individually.

iii)Any person who has held positions of responsibility within Welsh tennis – e.g. as a chairperson of a committee(s), a secretary of a committee(s), a committee member etc.

We will as always be striving to give our nominees and winners a memorable night, this year we will have a more narrative based approach to our evening, with programmes on tables giving full details of our nominee accomplishments over the past 12 months.
