Conahy Notes

CAMOGIE

Conahy’s Under-14 girls were unfortunately defeated by a strong St. Martin’s side in the Roinn B county final in Clara on Saturday afternoon last. Despite the great effort put in by all the Conahy girls, their opponents proved to be the stronger side all through, winning in the end by 3-9 to 1-4. However, the locals can be extremely proud of their achievement in reaching the county final. Well done to all the players and their coaches.

The junior girls lost out to Emeralds in the replay of the Junior League/Championship Semi-Final in Jenkinstown on Saturday night last. Similar to the drawn game last weekend, there was little between the sides. The Conahy girls battled hard but found scores hard to come by. The Urlingford girls managed to do about just enough to secure the victory, winning in the end by 1-10 to 2-5.

The minor camogie team bowed out of the St. Canice’s Credit Union Minor A Championship on Sunday morning last in the Polo Grounds after a hard fought match with Glenmore. This was a high scoring match that finished 2-16 to 3-9. Glenmore opened the scoring but Conahy girls got off the mark with a goal and a point from Danielle Morrissey. This was an up and down the field battle and Conahy were going well with a point from Zara Gunner and another goal from Danielle Morrissey. But the southerners got back into it with two goals of their own before half time to leave it 2-4 to 2-3 in favour of Conahy at half time. Glenmore came out very strong in the second half and scored some fine points but Conahy hit back again with a great goal from Katie Brennan. This left Conahy a point down but Glenmore added a few more points and ran out winners by 4 points. This was a brave performance by our girls but they just came up short.
