ACCOUNTING I (ACCT-I)

CORE STANDARDS, OBJECTIVES, AND INDICATORS:

Students will investigate the field of accounting, including how it is impacted by industry standards as well as economic, financial, technological, international, social, legal, and ethical factors. Students will reflect on this knowledge as they engage in the process of recording, classifying, summarizing, analyzing, and communicating accounting information. Students will also be able to formulate and interpret financial information for use in management making decisions.

GRADING:

Classwork, Projects, and Unit Review assignments will count as 30%, Comprehensive Tests will count as 60%, and, Class Notes and Do-Now will count as 10%; Final Exams will count as 25% of overall final grade. Classwork is work that is to be COMPLETED IN CLASS. If you surf the Internet or play games instead of working on classwork, you will receive a one. Redo work will be allowed and must be completed within allotted time for a maximum grade of 70%. Retests must also be completed in the allowable time according to the student handbook with a maximum grade of 70% and will only be administered during tutoring hours.

ATTENDANCE/TARDY POLICY, MAKE-UP WORK, PROGRESS REPORTS, AND REPORT CARDS

All assigned work must be completed in the classroom during the appropriate time, if additional time is needed student may make arrangements to come-in for tutoring. You may not do computer assignments at home even if you have a computer. You will have the number of days you are absent plus one day to complete your make-up work.

DISCIPLINE

The discipline in class will follow MISD’s plan for discipline. Refer to you student handbook. Cheating will not be tolerated. If you are caught cheating, you will receive zeroes AND a referral. Remember, there is a difference between copying someone’s work and helping someone. Any additional classroom discipline may be enforced.

TARDIES

TARDIES ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. Disciplinary action will be implemented according to the tardy policy at Midland High School. After 20 minutes, you are no longer tardy and you will becounted absent.

COMPUTER/WORKSTATION DAMAGE

You will need to inspect your computer area when you get to class each day. If there is anything broken, missing, or marked on with a pen, you need to tell me immediately. This way the last person to have sat in your chair will receive punishment. If you do not let me know, then you may be blamed for something you didn’t do. Anyone vandalizing equipment will be referred to their grade level principal immediately and may be removed from this class.

Students must comply with the following rules when in the classroom or consequences will be enforced as necessary.

  • Follow all MISD rules outlined in the Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
  • The MISD Dress Code will be enforced. All violations will be sent to the grade level principal.
  • Per MISD Cell Phone Policy, students may not have visible, use, display, or have in operational mode a paging device, cell phone, MP3 player, or other electronic device unless permission is given by the instructor.
  • Please do not apply lotion/cologne, etc. while you are in class as some students may suffer from allergies or asthma.
  • Be courteous, polite, and respectful to others at all times. Do not talk when I am talking or another student is talking.
  • Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Any display of such behavior will be dealt with accordingly.
  • Any offensive language or inappropriate conversations will be reported.
  • Follow directions and remain on the assigned task at all times. Do not play games or surf the Internet when you should be working or participating in class. Refusal to do classwork during designated times will be dealt with accordingly.
  • NO FOOD OR DRINKS IN CLASS.
  • NO USB’S ALLOWED IN THE COMPUTER LAB AT ANY TIME
  • NOCONNECTING PHONES TO COMPUTERS OR OUTLETS AT ANY TIME
  • Copyright laws will be strictly adhered to in this class, all work should be original. There will be no unauthorized audio or visual recordings. It is against school policy to record or take photographs anywhere on campus and/or within the classroom.
  • Take care of all personal business before coming to class. This means you should go to the bathroom before or after coming to class. Do not ask to go to the restroom, office, counselor, etc. during class.
  • Do not change any settings, backgrounds, wallpaper, screensavers, etc. on the computer.
  • Do not vandalize the computer/workspace in any way.
  • Follow all computer lab rules and abide by the MISD policies regarding Internet use.
  • Complete assignments on time and in full.
