Highlights:

-Our student of the month Hunter Lyons,Ms. McFarland’s 6th grade class.

-Katie McFarland, Phillip Wilson and Suzanne Morgan attended one day of the BET C (Behavior, Education, Technology Conference) training in Phoenix

-Every SuMMit classroom adopted a community agency (police department, fire department, hospital) and delivered Valentine’s Day cupcakes to employees.

SuMMit teachers and support staff are working as a team to keep things running smoothly. We appreciate the assistance of others in the district thathave supported us during the last few weeks. Many thanks go to Dr. Shuss, Dr. Fuller, Shannon Arterbury, Melissa Hallahan and Hugo Hernandez.

-High school AIMS writing and reading has gone smoothly.

-Teachers are thrilled about using their new document cameras.

Activities through Next Month:

-Students are using the new library and seem to enjoy the selection of books.

-Spring break

Challenges / Issues / Concerns:

-Maintaining focus and academic rigor through the end of the school year.

Director’s Summary:

As always, the teachers and staff of SuMMit have worked well together as a team throughout this quarter, regardless of busy schedules, busy kids, and daily changes. In addition to applauding these efforts, it is necessary to applaud the efforts and commitment that Therese Kent has demonstrated. She has been a driving force to ensure that we are supporting teachers, maintaining student focus and communicating with parents.

I am pleased to report that two SuMMitstudents have progressed academically and behaviorally to the point of expanding their time at the Florence K-8 side and therefore decreasing the time they spend in SuMMit. This progress demonstrates great efforts on the parts of both the students and the teachers; it additionally demonstrates the efforts that parents put forth at home working with their students and at school, supporting their children’s teachers.

-Approximately three 6th, three 8th , three 7th; and 7-8 high school have completed their programs and will return to their home school at semester.
