Super Saver Tournament Program for Southwest Teams Grades 9-12

Program/Participation Guidelines

The Wayzata Boys Basketball Association (WBBA) is promoting an optional program that allows teams in the Southwest league (grades 9-12) to play in a limited number of “Super Saver” tournaments. The purpose of this program is to provide the opportunity for these players to further their development as basketball players, including those who are looking for more playing opportunity than the regular Southwest league provides.

Super Saver tournaments (such as those offered by MYAS) typically occur all in one day – all games played in one day – a Saturday or a Sunday. There are usually different levels of play (A/B/C and competitive/non-competitive) available.

The elements and guidelines of this program are as follows:

Available to all teams in Southwest grades 9-12, at their option and at the team participants cost. WBBA will NOT reimburse coaches for this opportunity as in grades 6-8.

Teams are permitted to participate in up to four (4) Super Saver tournaments at their own expense. This limit of four (4) total is in the interest of not "overloading" players/parents/coaches. All tournaments must occur within the period of the Southwest league season (i.e. after the first Southwest league game and before the end of season Southwest tournament) unless approved by the WBBA in advance for insurance coverage.

Each team is responsible for scheduling and coordinating their participation in Super Saver tournament(s).

If individual players on a team do not want to participate in the Super Saver tournament(s), they will not be required to do so.

If a team has less than 10 interested players, they may combine with another team to form a team for playing in Super Saver tournaments.

Teams for the Super Saver tournaments may only include SW League players.

Unequal playing time is allowed (subject to the rules of the Super Saver tournaments) as long as all players play at least 1/3 of the game time. The purpose of this rule is to provide some “balance” since the Southwest league requires equal playing time.

Scheduling of Super Saver tournaments must be done in a way that does not conflict with the regular Southwest league schedule. For example, teams that normally play league games on Sundays will play in Super Saver tournaments that occur on Saturdays. Also, a Super Saver tournament may not be scheduled on the weekend that the Southwest end of season tournament occurs.

Participation of teams in tournaments or games outside of these guidelines and official WBBA programs will be considered not sanctioned by the WBBA.
