Summer Internship

The Battle Creek Bombers and Kalamazoo Growlers are under the same ownership management and internships for both teams are handled jointly.

Internship objective:

The Battle Creek Bombers and Kalamazoo Growlers are offering an opportunity for current college level students looking to gain real world experience in the sports industry to position themselves for a career in sports upon graduation.

About the interning organization:

The Battle Creek Bombersreturn for their 8th season in the prestigious Northwoods League after their memorable 2011 Summer Collegiate World Series Championship season. The Bombers play in historic C.O. Brown Stadium, a 4,800-seat facility located in the heart of Battle Creek.

The Kalamazoo Growlers are a 2014 Northwoods League expansion team beginning their second season of play this summer. The Growlers continue the rich history of baseball in Kalamazoo, carrying on the tradition of the Kalamazoo Kodiaks and Kalamazoo Kings. Homer Stryker Field, a 4,000-seat park located in Kalamazoo’s Mayors Riverfront Park is the home field of the Growlers.

The Northwoods League is a summer baseball league comprised of teams of the top college players from across North America. The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any Summer Collegiate Baseball League in North America. Each team is operated similar to a professional minor league team, providing players an opportunity to play under the same conditions using wooden bats, minor league specification baseballs, experiencing overnight road trips, and playing nightly before thousands of fans.

Start date: On or near the start of summer (May 15th), negotiable

End date: On or near the end of summer (August 15th), negotiable

Hours per week: The internships are part-time,which allow students the opportunity to work other part time jobs throughout their summer internship experience. Work hours are dependent on game dates and are discussed with students weekly throughout their internship.

Academic qualifications: Declared major or minor in Sport Management, journalism, marketing, or business.

Description of intern responsibilities:

Interns will learn the “ins and outs” of a full baseball season and get the opportunity to work in multiple aspects of the business. Each intern will experience numerous duties and rotate different departments each home stand to leave with a multi faceted experience. We are also looking for three internship managerial roles to be filled this summer that include a merchandise manager and two concessions/operations managers.

The merchandise manager will coordinate with the President of the organization to help oversee the entire merchandise department. Duties can include but are not limited to inventory management, re-orders, potential designs, stadium layout, and more. They will also work closely with the marketing managers to ensure that products are given effective promotional attention.

The concessions/operations managers will work directly with the Ballpark Operations Director and assist with inventory, ordering, staffing, and running all operations on game days.
