SU Campout 2017 Leader packing list

  • Permission slips for girls will need to be turned in.
  • Have girl and adult health histories on you, but they do not need to be turned in
  • Have an at home contact designated to call all parents at home if needed in case of emergency
  • Medication in their original container if your girls need medication. Leaders will dispense their girls’ medications
  • Troop first aid kit
  • Troop first aid certified and trained adult
  • Toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags for your unit
  • Liquid hand soap to put in bathroom
  • Extra flashlights and batteries (someone will lose theirs)
  • Troop snack if you think your girls may need something mid afternoon
  • Phone chargers, battery packs (there is poor cell service for most providers at BP, warn parents that you may be out of touch)
  • Package of hand wipes (or diaper wipes) for each adult to carry in their pack
  • Flavor packets for adults to use in drinking water (up to you if you give it to the girls. It can make them drink more water, but can also attract bees to them because of the sweetness)

Suggestions:

  • Cabins sleep 8 girls. Have pre-arranged sleeping arrangements prior to getting to camp.
  • I will let you know if your girls will need to share a cabin with girls from another troop.
  • You will have access to a until building that includes a kitchen with a fridge. You may plan to store food, drinks (for the leaders), or medications in the fridge. Be respectful of other troops that may need space in the fridge also. Label everything.
  • There will be coffee available at the cafeteria on Saturday and Sunday morning. Feel free to bring your own pot and supplies for your unit lodge if you need it earlier than that 
  • Have your girls pack their items in (3) 1 gallon ziplock bags-Saturday, Sunday, and extra clothes/PJs.
  • It’s up to you if you want to shower, or have your girls shower. Personally, my troops do not shower on weekend campouts. Less gear to take, and more time to play outside and not worry about the shower hassle/chaos. If you don’t plan to shower, forewarn girls and their parents and take those items off your packing list.
  • Bring something for your girls to do if it rains and we have to spend some time in cabins. (cards, games, crafts)
  • Some leaders invest in troop sunscreen and bug spray so the girls don’t have to pack it. Be aware of sensitive skin, some girls may need to pack their own if they require a special kind
  • Make your girls drink frequently. Dehydration happens even in cool weather if they are very active. If they have a headache, make them drink. If they say that they are hungry-make them drink.
