2017 Grant Application

STAR Fund Grant History

The STAR Fund was created to help develop new patient-focused programs and purchase equipment, supplies and other items for patients and their families that are not covered in the hospital budget. The STAR Fund grants are made possible entirely by employee contributions. This year, the fund will have $21,000 to disburse for approved requests.

Each year, a committee of health system employees decides how money contributed to the STAR Fund will be spent. The committee distributes money based on grant requests from hospital departments and nursing units.

Since its inception in 2004, the STAR Fund grants have provided approximately $415,400 to various programs, departments and units at The University of Kansas Health System. Electronics, educational materials, sleeper chairs and supply carts are just some examples of grants that have been made possible by the STAR Fund.
