All trappers wishing to enter fur (including junior) must have a valid STA membership. (See details on adult and youth membership at

Points for Pelt Preparation – Adult and Junior (15 and under)

Beaver: Eyes, ears, leg holes sewn shut. Measurements from leg holes to edge of skin must be consistent. Measurements from corner to corner across leg holes must be the same. Skin should be smooth. Fur should be clean and properly brushed. Nails should be evenly spaced.

Muskrat: Consistent shape, smooth bottom edge, not over scraped, smooth overall. Belly and back must be pinned even.

Marten: Front legs inside, even pinned tail. Must be brushed, good grease control, proper pinning and spread of feet and legs.

Mink: Flesh clean including tail; front legs should be tucked, inspection window clean and even.

Otter: Tail properly pleated. Sew front legs. Face must not be too narrow. Inspection window should be clean and even. Pelt fleshed properly.

Cat (lynx or bobcat): Even stretch on back legs; cartilage removed from ears; brushed and clean; claws removed; tail split; lower lip removed; front legs properly dried and tucked.

Coyote: Cartilage removed from ears; lower lip removed; tail split and pinned open; proper fleshing; fur clean and brushed.

Fox: Cartilage removed from ears; lower lip removed; tail split and pinned open; proper fleshing; fur clean and brushed.

Raccoon: Proper fleshing including tail; tail pinned open; grease control; and front legs sewed.

Fisher: Tuck front legs; tail split and pinned; lower lip removed; properly fleshed and cleaned.

All fur should be centred on board and boarded to proper measurements and not overstretched.

All entries must be submitted by 10:00am on Saturday.

Fur Competition Framework

Adult Competition

Open: Single species competition for marten, fisher, coyote, fox, otter, raccoon, beaver, mink, cat (bobcat or lynx), and bundle of three muskrat. Every trapper is eligible to submit one fur in each category.

PRIZE: First place in each species receives $30, second place $20.

There will also be a grand aggregate winner.

15 and Under

1)Bundle of three may include a combination of squirrel, muskrat and weasel or may be all of one species.
PRIZE: Donated by past president Jim Luthi

1 muskrat funnel trap, 3 #110 Duke bodygrip traps, 6 muskrat forming boards with belly boards, 2 knives, 1 scraper, box of aluminum push pins, 1 squirrel board, and 1 weasel board valued at $180

2)Single pelt of coyote, fox, raccoon, mink or beaver Every trapper is eligible to submit one fur in each category.
PRIZE: First is $20, second is $10 for each category.

There will also be an overall winner.
