Summary

Provide comprehensive assessment and treatment to those kids that can benefit from St. PJ’s Mission Statement who have been admitted to the Emergency Shelter. Participate in clinical staff meetings and program administration and development. Provide clinical direction and leadership to Case Managers, Shelter Care Workers, and other therapists based on results of the comprehensive assessment. Collaborate directly with the Shelter Care Staff Manager and the Assessment & Treatment Team Manager. Utilize additional required skills to construct enrichment activities that will lead to healing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Therapy:

Provides the agreed upon number of clinical hours.

Provides initial contact with newly admitted adolescents and children.

Completes comprehensive CTA “Brain mapping” assessment and disseminates the report to all staff who may work with the child.

Develops specific enrichment activities and interventions that are designed to enhance the opportunities for healing.

Maintains continuing education standards of licensing board.

Maintains continuing education standards for specific therapeutic interventions.

Represents the standards and practices of therapeutic counseling.

Maintaining clinical records in keeping with agency policies and procedures.

Working with administrative staff to set and collect appropriate fees.

Clinical Staff Participation:

Works cooperatively on treatment team with Casemanager, Caseworker, Direct Care Staff, Psychologist, and respective School Personnel.

Makes presentations to school personnel when needed to assist the child in the educational environment. These presentations detail specific enrichment activities that will assist in the healing process.

Working cooperatively with staff colleagues, consultants, and referring professionals

Actively participates in clinical staffings and case consultations.

Attends administrative staff meetings, staff retreats, and other team building activities.

Center Administrative and Development:

Participates in the development of the Shelter’s referral network.

Performing administrative and development tasks as assigned.

Participating in the Shelter’s programs of education, consultation, and community

relations.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise interns if qualified.

Qualifications

Ability to assess a client’s therapeutic needs, to establish a therapeutic relationship, and to conduct, complete, terminate, and evaluate that therapy.

Ability to relate the contributions of various disciplines to the therapeutic task and to make appropriate use of inter-disciplinary collaboration.

Ability to use the language and methodology of differential diagnosis and familiarity with the contributions of various diagnostic tests.

Ability to use the language and methodology of differential diagnosis and familiarity with the contributions of various diagnostic tests assessments and collateral information.

Ability to establish and maintain appropriate personal and professional relationships and boundaries both within and outside the Center.

Education and/or Experience

Must be independently licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Ph.D. in the State of Texas. In addition to the licensure, at least 5 years of clinical experience in the child welfare system is required.

Must be Trauma Informed Care Certified as evidenced by certification from a DFPS accredited trainer or be able to achieve certification within 10 working days of hire.

Specialized clinical training validated by certification or licensure, by the groups corresponding to their fields. The preferred training and experience is above and beyond the above state licensure. Certification in EMDR, TF-CBT, Play Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, Art Therapy, are all examples of additional experience preferred for this position.

Training Requirements

This position is required to be trained and certified in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics and use this assessment to create a brain map of each age appropriate child admitted to the Emergency Shelter. Certification in NMT must be achieved within 6-months of hire.

Other position specific trainings include; psychotherapeutic techniques, theories and updates, professional ethics and grant management.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend. Ability to effectively present information to large and small groups and to clients. Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measures.

Reasoning Ability

Must possess strong assessment skills and the ability to remain composed and neutral in crisis situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Appropriate State licensure and other applicable certificates, registrations, etc.

Physical Demands

Requires sufficient body mobility to accomplish essential functions of the job. Requires bending, stooping and stretching. Requires some lifting. Must have fine motor skills to perform typing and writing of reports, etc.Must be able to type, write and speak clearly.

Correctable hearing and vision sufficient to handle daily stressful situations. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Additional Requirements

The therapist agrees to sign the Confidential Information Policy in the Employee Guidebook which states that ALL information about a child, his or her family and past or present circumstances is strictly confidential and is not to be discussed, taken from the premises or divulged to persons other than those who have a professional interest in the child. Discussions of confidential aspects of St. PJ’s or disclosure of confidential matters either to another employee not entitled to the information or to persons outside the St. PJ’s community is considered grounds for termination.

The therapist will attend work regularly in accordance with agency leave policy.

The therapist must be willing and available to work after hours, nights, weekends and holidays to handle emergencies as needed. Provide proof of valid Texas Driver’s License (Class C); have access to reliable transportation; furnishing a copy of official state driving record verifying an acceptable driving record. Provide 2 (two) employment references and 1 (one) personal reference. Submit to a criminal background check, pre-employment and random drug testing and initial examination for tuberculosis and annually thereafter. Maintain a working home telephone at all times. Learn and use automation to complete required forms and case documentation.
