President’s Message

by Martha Gisriel

Happy 2012, everyone! I hope that the new year is going well for each of you.I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Emily Halsey-Kovaleski for leading CVSHRM for the past 2 years, and I look forward to being your President in 2012. If you have any suggestions for our chapter or would like to join one of our committees, please contact me. As the saying goes, "Many hands make light work." We encourage all of our chapter members to be active participants in leading CVSHRM forward.

We are looking for volunteers to fill our open Board positions for 2012. If you would like to help or want more information, do not hesitate to contact me or any CVSHRM Board member. Please consider the donation of your time and efforts to assist our chapter to be the best it can be!

Some benefits of becoming a Cumberland Valley SHRM Board Member include:

  • The chance to make an impact and assist in the development of your local chapter and the HR profession.
  • An opportunity to be recognized as a leader in the field of human resources.
  • Hours spent as a volunteer leader can be counted toward HRCI recertification hours.
  • Opportunity to attend SHRM’s Annual Leadership Conference in November at a completely FREE or reduced rate.

2012 CVSHRM Annual Dues

It's that time of year again when we are collecting annual CVSHRM dues. We are asking members to complete the application form when submitting their dues so we will have up-to-date information on our members. The application form is included as part of this newsletter (pp. 7-8). Many thanks to those of you who have renewed your chapter membership already. Please feel free to bring your application and payment to our next monthly meeting on Thursday, January 19, or mail your payment to P. O. Box 791, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Remember: Annual dues are $30 if you are a member of national SHRM or $40 if you are not. Checks should be payable to CVSHRM. Think about asking a friend to join as well. We are looking to grow our membership, and word of mouth is great way to advertise!

Diversity Forum Needs a Leader

A highlight of CVSHRM's activities in past years has been the annual Diversity Forum. For various reasons, we were unable to hold a forum in 2011. Although we would like to bring back the Diversity Forum in 2012, it cannot happen without your help. If anyone is interested in chairing the Diversity Committee and organizing the Diversity Forum, please contact a member of the CVSHRM Board of Directors. We have some ideas for the forum, but we need for someone to step forward to fill this role. If you are PHR or SPHR certified, participation as a Board Officer, Committee Chair, or Committee Chair will qualify you for recertification credits (see
