Homewordis seeking residences to participate in the 2012 Sustainability Tour showcasinginnovative green building techniques and sustainable living practices. The 10th annual tour is scheduled for Saturday, June 9, 2012from 12-5pm and will feature a variety of Missoula residences.

GOALS OF THE 2012 SUSTAINABILITY TOUR:

  1. Increase awareness of the sustainability movement in the Missoula community
  2. Increase awareness of Homeword
  3. Showcase sustainable practices through Homeword’s housing developments and other local residences (holistic approach including but not limited to housing, food production, transportation, location, etc.)
  4. Offer tangible resources for community members who want to implement sustainable practices
  5. Work with ClearSky Climate Solutions to make the tour a carbon-neutral event

Qualifications:

 Any type of residential housing – single family, multifamily, townhouse/condo

 New construction or remodel

 Located in the City ofMissoula

 Includes a wide array of green building techniques and materials and/or sustainable living practices

 Owner/developer or builder/architect available as site host on tour day to show home and answer questions

 Willing to be featured on Homeword’s website and print media with photos and descriptions of the home’s sustainable features

Selection Process:

 Applications will be reviewed by Homeword’s Sustainability Tour planning committee and staff.

Committee members will conduct site visits to pre-selected homes to evaluate theresidencewith homeowner and/or building professional.

NOTE: Tentatively, all site visits will be conducted March 27-30, 2012.

 Homes selected for the tour will demonstrate a variety of sustainable building features and techniques; be located ingeographic clusters throughout Missoula; and have the ability to accommodate numerous visitors at one time.

 Priority will be given to projects that incorporate two or more of the following criteria:

1. Project represents a comprehensive approach to sustainable building

2.Project demonstrates sustainable practices in an affordable and replicable manner

3. Project follows sustainable design and construction principles with attention to resource conservation

4. Project illustrates passive and/or active solar design and technology

5. Project represents new and/or alternative building envelopes or appropriate uses of traditional buildingmethods

6. Project illustrates attention to indoor environmental quality

7. Project is able to visually show many sustainable features and their costs

8. Project demonstrates lowering energy consumption and water conservation

9.Project is located close to City infrastructure, including but not limited to transportation, services and utilities

Applicants will be notified whether or not their home is selected by April 13, 2012.

Tour Date:

SATURDAY, JUNE 9, 2012from 12-5pm

Pre-Tour:

Supply detailed product and process information about the sustainable features in their home for event page on Homeword website, marketing and tour guidebook.

Site hosts need to be available to attend an orientation meeting on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 6pm.

Day of Tour:

Homeowner/developer or builder/architect will be asked to:

  1. Answer questions about sustainable building features.
  2. Post outdoor directional signs supplied by Homeword and informational sheets supplied by homeowner.
  3. Receive visitors from 12-5pm.
  4. Coordinate with on-site volunteers from 11am-5pm.
  5. Remove signs and pack up home tour materials for pickup after the tour.

Additional Information:

 Homes are only open during official tour hours: 12-5pm

The tour will be advertised six weeks in advance to maximize tour attendance.

Tickets and tour guidebooks describing sustainable home features and directions will be available for sale to the public. Each sitehost will receive one free ticket and tour guidebook.

Each site host will receive a 2012 Sustainability Tour commemorative plaque to display in their home.

All proceeds from this event directly benefit Homeword and those we serve.
