Siste Nytt Fra Humblebee Home Andalucía, Desember 2011

Latest news from HumbleBee Home Andalucía, March 2012

Dear friends!

We are well into a new year and, believe it or not, we have now been in Andalucía for 10 years! Incredible how fast these years have gone by and how many wonderful guests we have had the pleasure of having with us during these years. In an article in a Norwegian newspaper in May 2009 the journalist wrote “A thousand Spain tourists can’t be wrong” – many more have visited us since then. In total we have had 6061 guest nights since we started in June 2002! We have room for many more and appreciate every single one that comes, new acquaintances and returning guests.

In these 10 years we have developed the property with many different small and big projects, some of the are mentioned here:

-The old chicken shed / pig sty was demolished and made room for 2 lovely rooms and a small laundry room

-The old goat stable has become the smallest and most intimate bar in Andalucía

-The old vegetable garden is now a swimming pool with a surrounding terrace

-The old donkey stable has become an inviting lounge with a wood burning oven

-The old outdoor kitchen / laundry room has become the most luxurious bathroom well suited for both proposals and anniversary celebrations – we are talking out of experience!

-A superb bbq built with natural stones from the riverbed

-A parking lot with a storage room and a dog house in natural stones

We still have many plans for what we would like to do and hope that with time we will be able to afford to realise some of them. What is new though, is that we recently were given permission to put up a sign down by the main road. After 10 years and several rejections on our applications, the town hall has approved that we can put up a sign on one of their signposts. Now we have to produce the sign and we hope to have it in place soon – hooray!!!

We wish to celebrate our 10 year anniversary this summer together with our guests and would like to give you what we hope is an irresistible anniversary offer:

If you book a stay of minimum one week in June, July or August, we give you 20% discount on your accommodation!

We hope this will tempt many of you to come for a stay at Posada HumbleBee Home this summer – we still have lots of vacancies!

The winter this year has been very dry so far but it looks as if some badly needed rain is about to come. Not too good for the Easter tourists and the wonderful Easter processions, but there is still time for the forecasts to change. They say that this is the driest winter for as long as anyone can remember – quite a difference to the winter 2 years ago which was the wettest in over 70 years. We are not complaining, but we de notice that the nature could do with some rain. It is nice and green all around us, the poppies are flowering and so have the olive trees – a bit early for them in fact.

During the 10 years we have been here we have had the pleasure of the company of several dogs and cats. The dogs Vimse, Elle, Luna, Zita and Chiquita have all become good friends with our guests, good walking buddies for the grownups and playful mates for the many children who have been here. The cats Suma, Sofus and Lucía have been cuddled in many laps as well. February 24th turned out a very sad day in this regard. We lost both Elle and Zita, probably shot by hunters or hunting guards when they were out on their little morning walk. Chiquita came home, thanks for that, but she misses her good friends. This we are planning to do something about, in about a month we will have a new puppy in place and Chiquita will have to raise her to be as nice and good natured as she is herself and as they all have been. It’s nice to have something good to look forward to and it is always both nice and funny with a puppy in the house 

Next week is Easter holidays which the Spanish celebrate in their own way with processions and in the good company of friends and family. In the months to come several things are happening in our proximity and many possible experiences for our guests:

-April – Semana Santa – the Easter week is a big celebration in Spain, with processions in every town and village. For those of you who have not experienced it yet, it is a must!

-May – Fiesta de Verdiales de las Tres Cruces. Folk dance and music as only the Spanish know how to put it together!

-May – Romería Santo Cristo de la Sierra in Valle de Abdalajís

-May – Romería en Honor a San Isidro Labrador i several villages around us, amongst them Almogía, Ardales and Teba

When the summer arrives so does all the local fería’s, local village fairs, with fun fairs and roller coasters for the children, music arrangements for both youth and the grownups, all mixed in good atmosphere, good food, good drinks and lots of people.

This year we have improved in updating our Facebook group called Posada HumbleBee Home. We post pictures of bits and pieces from the nature and happenings around us. If you are on Facebook, you can search for the group and join as a member. You will then receive notifications when we post something new and you can follow our life in Andalucía.

Also, feel free to put in a little note in the guestbook on our web page. We receive so many nice words in our paper guestbook here and would like it for more people to see them on our web pages as well. We are also present on if you would like to give us a review there.

In these day,s holiday planning occupies many and we remind you that you are welcome to pass on this newsletter to your friends and family. It may be that some of them are planning a trip to Spain this summer and could be interested in coming here.

We end this newsletter wishing you all a lovely springtime and hope that we will see you in beautiful Andalucía this year.
