SigGroup Transition Plan Update

1. Requirements of the EC

  • Submit transition plan by May 15, 2004 (done)
  • Increase Volunteerism (in progress, see below)
  • Publish overdue issues of SIGGroup Bulletin (in progress, see schedule below)
  • Produce a slate of candidates (pending bulletin catch-up)
  • Hold Elections (pending bulletin catch-up)

2. Plan to Increase Volunteerism

  • Identify key contributors of SIGGroup
  1. Members who have attended 2 of the last 3 Group conferences
  2. Members who have served on conference committees/program committees
  3. Authors of papers at the last 2 Group conference
  • Clarify/restructure volunteer officer duties
  • Information Director
  • Membership Director
  • Bulletin Editor
  • Idea: have a coordinating editor and 3 regional editors (Pacific Rim, Americas, European). Each regional editor to be responsible for one issue a year.
  • Rename SIGGroup Bulletin to SIGGroup Communications, or some other title that looks less like a news letter, this may help with submissions
  • Send a call for participation to membership for nominations and volunteers for all positions (email).
  • Send a written letter to volunteer to key contributors list.
  • Send monthly or every other month email news letters with conference of interest, new products, industry news. (similar to SIG COMM).
  • Update website to reflect current status, call for participation, calls for bulletin contributions.

Progress :

  • Key members of the past conferences were identified and asked to participate on the program committee of Group 05 or as guest editors of the bulletin. To date we have two volunteers for guest editors and a complete program committee for Group05. See attachments.
  • Calls for participation on the Group05 committee and for the bulletin contributions have been sent via email
  • Web site updated to reflect newly appointed officers, bulletin information and special issues, and call for participation.
  • Relevant conference calls forwarded via email to members

Plan to increase submissions to bulletin

4. SigGroup Conference Activities

  • Group’03 (100% SIGGroup Sponsorship, 11/03), Sanibel Island, Florida, USA. Attendance was 90, up from 75 in 2001.
  • CSCW’04(Cosponsored with SIGCHI).
  • ICEIS'04 held 4/14-17/04 in Porto, Portugal. (in cooperation)
  • Group’05 (100% SIG Group Sponsorship, 11/05), planned for Sanibel Island, Florida, USA.
