Application Guidelines

OVERVIEW

1The Singapore International Foundation makes friends for a better world. Our programmes bring people together to share ideas, skills and experiences in areas such as healthcare, education, the environment, arts and culture, as well as livelihood and business. Through our suite of cultural exchange programmes, we harness the power of arts and culture to promote understanding for an inclusive world and deliver on social impact.

2The Singapore Internationale Programme enables Singaporean artists to connect with world communities to promote awareness and understanding of Singapore’s multi-culturalism, social innovation and sustainable urban living practices through creative works presented overseas.

SUBMISSION

3The application form has the following sections:

4The complete submission should consist of:

  1. Fully completed and signed application form(group applications to also complete Appendix A)
  2. Resume/CV/profile of the artist/group members)
  3. A copy of the letter of invitation by the relevant authority or festival/event organiser
  4. A sample of the work to be presented overseas*
  5. A sample of previous works within the past five years (up to three pieces)*

*Please do not submit original copies as we are unable to return support materials. Keep to the following specifications for support materials (sent via wetransfer.com, or saved onto DVD/flash drive): Audio and video files should be between one to three minutes in .mp3, .mpeg, .mov or .wmv formats; photographs should be in .jpg or .tif formats no lesser than 300dpi each.

5Your application for your project commencing on/from 01December 2016must reach us by01September 2016.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. What is Singapore Internationale?

TheSingapore Internationale(SI) programmeenables Singaporean artists to promote awareness andunderstanding of Singapore’s multiculturalism, social innovation and sustainable urban living through their creative works overseas. We feature the works and impact of our citizen ambassadors in connecting communities, as well as the diversity of Singapore culture on the global stage at our DiverseCityshowcase.​

2. Who is a citizen ambassador and what role do I play as one?

Artists like yourself are citizen ambassadors when you partner SIF to share insights into Singapore with world communities through your presentations and collaborations.

3. Who can apply?

a)Applicants:

  • Only Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents may apply and are eligible.
  • Individuals or groups may apply. Informal groups should nominate either two individuals or a legally constituted organisation to take legal and financial responsibility for administrative purposes. The programmedoes not support groups affiliated to education institutions.

b)Work

  • Existing / completed works invited to be presented overseas.
  • The work should belong to the fields of design, literary arts, multidisciplinary arts, performing arts, visual arts and other creative projects.
  • The work should demonstrate all or at least one of these areas: Singapore’s multiculturalism, social innovation, and/or sustainable urban living.
  • The work is to be presented overseas on at least one of the following platforms: exhibitions, performances, international festivals and events. Other non-commercial platforms will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.The list above is not exhaustive; please contact SIF to find out if your project can be supported.
  • The programme only supports travel- and living-related costs (air/train fare, travel visa, freight of works, accommodation, personal trip travel insurance, transport and meals in the host country) and does not support: costs related to art creation, production of albums/EPs/publications;venue rental; participation fees forart fairs, competitions, conferences, residencies, workshops; or any presentations in Singapore.

4. I am not a Singapore Permanent Resident, and have/will be collaborating with Singaporean(s)/Singapore Permanent Resident(s) on a work that will be presented outside of Singapore. Can I apply?

Yes. Your Singaporean/Singapore Permanent Resident collaborator may submit an application on behalf of the group.

5. What does SIF look out for in the project?

  • The artistic merit of the proposed presentation —creativity and clear artistic direction to share insights into Singapore’s multiculturalism, social innovation and/or sustainable urban livingpractices.
  • Collaborative aspects of your work with the international community
  • Your track record— past works, awards and recognition.
  • Promotion of cross-cultural understanding, fostering international collaboration and people-to-people ties.
  • Your ability to connect and grow network of international communities overseas – standing of the platform, and collaborating partners.
  • Your project’s reach and quality of public engagement in the host country – pre-event marketing and promotion; engagement during the event and leveraging foreign media networks to promote the project, SIF and Singapore
  • Your ability to plan — sound budgeting, resourcefulness, effective use of resources.Applicants are encouraged to submit a realistic total budget that presents anticipated alternative sources of support/income, costs and needs.

6. Must I be based in Singapore in order to apply?

No, you are not required to be living in Singapore at the point of application.

7. How many times a year could I apply for the Singapore Internationale programme in a year?

The programme supports up to two successful projects for each individual or group applicant each year, based on date of the project.

Applications from artists will not be considered if there are outstanding post-project reports from previous projects supported by the programme.

8. What do I include in the projected budget?

You should include a projection of all costs related to present this work overseas, in particular costs of travel and living, material costs and other items related to the presentation overseas, as well as alternate sources of support (monetary or in-kind) (confirmed and pending).

9. May I appeal the outcome of the application?

The decision is final and we are unable to entertain appeals.

10. How can my foreign partners and audience stay in touch with Singapore after viewing my presentation?

You could encourage them to leave their details on the SIF Friends of Singapore contact form at the event, or direct them to contact SIF (email: ). They will receive regular news about Singapore, and updates on events that SIF organises in their country via email.

6. TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. The amount awarded is for the project named in the application and is not transferable to another project.
  2. The SIF is to be kept informed of developments and deviations from the project details indicated on the application form, including changes in implementation, budget, postponement and cancellations, in a timely manner.
  3. In the course of presenting the project, all artists are to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner and uphold the image of Singapore as the country’s cultural ambassadors.
  4. Acknowledgement should be given to SIF on all promotional and publicity avenues/materials where appropriate for the support rendered by SIF. Please request for the appropriate hi-res SIF logos from SIF, and seek confirmation with SIF before using the logo.
  5. 70% of the approved amount will generally be disbursed upon confirmation while the balance 30% or part thereof will be disbursed post-event upon complete submission of the required documents/materials.
  6. Required documents/materials should be submitted within two months of project completion, failing which the artist/group will forfeit the balance award amount:

  • Budget and actual expense tally (including income and other sources of funding received), with originalor scanned certified true copies of receipts and invoices for all travel- and living-related expenditure (air/train fare, travel visa, freight of works, airport-hotel transfers, personal trip travel insurance, accommodation, and food in the host country). Please attach individual receipts onto A4-sized paper and indicate the nature of the expense.
  • Audio-visual documentation of the presentation including actual performance or exhibition, interaction with collaborators (if applicable), interaction with audience andaudience quotations and commentsin the following formats:
  • Min 5 hi-resolution photographs (min 300dpi, JPEG or TIFF format) with captions for each
  • Audio and/or visual recording of project (QuickTime (.mov), Windows Media Player (.wmv), or .mpeg format)
  • Original or scanned hi-resolution (min 300dpi) publicity materials of the project or the event (marketing collaterals, media clippings etc)
  1. The SIF reserves the right to use the materials including photographs, video/audio recordings and media clippings submitted by the artists, and call on artists to be cultural ambassadors for purely non-commercial and publicity purposes.
  2. The SIF reserves the rights to withdraw the award at any time if the above terms are not adhered to or if in the opinion of SIF, the project deviates substantially from the original proposal indicated in the application. In such events, the artist shall refund all monies paid to the artist immediately upon being notified of SIF’s withdrawal.
