Hours:27.5 hours per week, term time only (Mon – Fri, 8.45am – 12 noon; 1pm – 3.15pm)

Salary:Scale J/K depending on experience (£15,106 - £17,920 pa, pro rata)

Term of Contract: Specific to 1:1 with named child

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

  • Good level of education to include Maths and English GCSE grade C or above, or further relevant experience in the absence of formal qualifications
  • NVQ level 2 or equivalent
  • Ability to promote a positive ethos and to role model positive attributes
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with all pupils and colleagues
  • Effective ICT skills to support learning
  • Flexibility and commitment to share in development of our school
  • Patience and good sense of humour

Desirable

  • Experience of resource preparation to support learning programmes
  • Knowledge of a range of issues relating to education and child development
  • Understanding of relevant policies/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation
  • Experience of strategies for supporting pupils with social emotional or behavioural needs

JOB DESCRIPTION TEACHING ASSISTANT

Shaw Ridge Primary School

General Description of the post

Under the direction of the Headteacher, Teacher, or Special Education Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo), work as part of a team to promote the emotional, physical and educational development of pupils.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Supporting the Pupil

  1. Participate in activities designed to meet the emotional, physical and learning needs of individual children and groups of children.
  2. Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
  3. Set challenging expectations and promote self-esteem and independence.

Supporting the Teacher

  1. Assist with the organisation of the learning environment.
  2. Under direction of the class teacher, maintain accurate records in accordance with school policies and data protection.
  3. Assist with managing behaviour, reporting difficulties as appropriate.
  4. Provide admin support eg. photocopying, filing as appropriate

Supporting the Curriculum

  1. Assist in the organisation and delivery of learning activities, including numeracy, literacy or ICT.
  2. Prepare and maintain equipment/resources as directed by the teacher/SENCo

Supporting the School

  1. Provide consistent and effective support for colleagues in line with the responsibilities of this role.
  2. Assist with the implementation of a behaviour management programme.
  3. Support the maintenance of pupil safety and security and minimise the risks from health emergencies.
  4. Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required.

Supporting the Teaching Assistant

  1. Participate in regular performance reviews to ensure that any personal development needs are identified and met. Attend relevant inset training as directed by the Headteacher.

Other Duties

  1. In accordance with the provisions of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, to take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself, colleagues and pupils who may be affected by your omissions at work, and to co-operate with the school so far as is necessary to enable the school to perform or comply with their duties under statutory health and safety provisions.
  2. Undertake any other duties that can be accommodated within the grading level and nature of this post.

Job Description and Candidate Specification – Mid-day Supervisory Assistant
Role reports to: Business Manager who will liaise with Headteacher as necessary
Job Purpose:
To assist in the supervision of pupils during the lunch break, as required to ensure the safety, general welfare and behaviour management of pupils during this period.
Key Accountabilities:
  1. To be responsible for the supervision of all pupil behavior during the lunch break, in the playground, or other areas of the school as required by the Headteacher. To share in school ethos of promoting a positive approach to behavior management
  2. To be responsible for the care of pupils as necessary, depending on Key Stage eg. taking them to the toilet, providing comfort, dealing with accidents, being alert to signs that a pupil is unwell or distressed.
  3. To be responsible for the supervision of pupil hygiene and health and safety eg. hand washing.
  4. To foster pupil’s self esteem and independence, however assisting pupils where necessary, for example
  5. to carry trays etc to the table, and to return empty dishes etc to the service counter.
  6. to open packed lunches, cut up food and guidance on proper use of cutlery, assist in clearance of any spillage etc if required.
  7. To assist as required in clearing tables, wiping them down and resetting according to meals.
  8. To assist in the setting up and removing of furniture for lunch time in any area of the school as required.
  9. To give minor first aid to pupils, requesting assistance when needed with injuries or illness. Liaising with the head teacher on welfare matters and injuries that cause concern. To report all accidents, ensuring that the procedure for recording accidents in the accident book is followed.

Knowledge and Experience:
  • A basic level of literacy and numeracy.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work as part of team.
  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security and confidentiality, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
  • Basic knowledge of first aid would be an advantage
