ELLINGTON SOFTBALL

SENIOR LEAGUE SOFTBALL DIVISION INFORMATION

The Senior League Division is a fast pitch softball division. Players will play competitive softball with emphasis placed on individual and team play. Coaches will continue to teach the fundamentals of teamwork, good sportsmanship and discipline. Players will receive instruction in order to fine tune their skills in hitting, fielding and throwing.

ELIGIBILITY –This Senior Division consists of players who are 13 through 16 years old

as of 12/31/14. 12 year olds are eligible to tryout for this league with previous Major League experience. Once a 12 year old plays in the Senior Division, they will no longer be eligible to play in Major League All Stars, only Jr. League All Stars if there is a team.

TEAM SELECTION –Teams are selected around the time that the Middle School team is selected. The number of players registered for the Senior Division will determine whether a player evaluation is necessary. If a Senior Evaluation date is scheduled then the player must attend this evaluation. Teams are selected with input from the coaches and the Player Agent with attention paid to player’s experience and ability. The player/parent will be notified in early April regarding team placement.

UNIFORMS–The official game uniform consists of a shirt, shorts, visor, socks and softball cleats. All players will receive a visor and pair of socks that do not need to be returned. Uniform shirts and shorts will be handed out and must be returned at the end of the season to the coach. Parents will be responsible for paying a “replacement fee” of $25.00 for any shirt that is not returned and $10.00 for any shorts not returned by the end of June.

PRACTICES- Coaches will schedule practices beginning around the second week of April, weather permitting. Practices are scheduled on a weekly basis. Coaches will notify parents of the date, time and location of the practices.

GAME SCHEDULE – Opening Day is scheduled for Saturday May 2nd. Opening Ceremonies will begin in the morning and will be followed with scheduled games later that day. Most home games will be played at the High School on various weeknight evenings at 6pm and some Saturday afternoons. Most scheduled games will be competed in neighboring towns. It is about a 15 game schedule that should begin around the end of April, with 1 to 3 games scheduled per week, and should conclude by mid-June. A season ending party is planned at the conclusion of the season.
