Litter Picker

This postholder will have responsibility for litter pickingand cleaning duties for FifeCoast and Countryside Trust and will be a support in the maintenance of the Coastal areas.

The post will be based in Kirkcaldy / CuparKinghorn / Guardbridgeand will work along the full stretch of the Coastal Path in Fife and therefore requires the individual to hold a full valid UK driving licence.

Job Purpose

  • Carry out cleaning duties under the direction of the Beaches and Coastal OfficerLead Litter Pickers.
  • Removing litter from beaches, grass areas, roads, paths etc using the necessary tools and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that the quality of litter cleaning is to the standard specified by the Beaches andTrust .Coastal Officer.
  • Carrying out litter clearing following a programme of frequency as determined by the requirements of specific areas.
  • Emptying litter bins as specified in the appropriate route in Fife and advising any defects as soon as possible to the Beaches and Coastal OfficerLead Litter Pickers.
  • Cleaning and maintaining the public conveniences on the Coastal area to standards as determined by FifeCoast and Countryside Trust

The Person

The successful candidate will be flexible in their attitude to work practices and be able to work both as part of a team and individually. Able to travel independently around Fife they will work from Kirkcaldy / CuparKinghorn / Guardbridge. Experience of this type of work preferably in an environmental organisation would be desirable but this is not essential as the post holder will gain the skills and capacity to understand the environment they will work with.

General

This post includes variable working patterns each week and will be worked over a 7 day rota including weekends.FCCT reserve the right to allocate other duties of equivalent grade and status as determined by the workload of the organisation.

A Flexible working arrangement is in operation and any time worked above the normal hours is compensated for by time off in lieu but is not encouraged.

Holiday entitlement is currently 24 days plus 8 days Public Holiday pro rata (rising to 29 days after the completion of five years’ service)

The Trust does not provide accommodation to successful candidates.

Performance measures

  • Number of complaints of unkempt areas along coastal stretches
  • Toilets cleaned regularly, within the schedule
  • Response time to complaints from visitors
  • Manner in which customer complaints are dealt with(and recorded correctly)
