AS WE GATHER - Becoming like children is not on most people’s list of priorities, yet Jesus holds children up as those who will both enter and become the great ones in the reign of God. Among the duties of those in civil authority, leaders are charged to protect children from wrongdoers. Children are the ones for whom the Shepherd searches and finds and harming them incurs severe consequences. Humbling ourselves like children equips Jesus’ followers to work together to resolve conflicts in congregations and homes.
We currently have enough shoeboxes for this year’s Operation Christmas Child project. If you still have some to donate, you can hang on to them until we are done with this year or bring them to the churches and we will find a place to store them. Thank you to everyone who donated boxes and to Bonnie Huebsch for wrapping all of them.
Confirmation will begin on September 17that Trinity, rotating between the churches.
School supplies are now being advertised in our local stores. Items may be at all time low prices. They can be purchased for the Operation Christmas Child project or the Salvation Army for local children.
Remember, Sunday School will be starting again in September. Watch upcoming bulletins for beginning dates in both churches.
Mankato Zone LWML rally will be held on Saturday, September, 13th at Salem Lutheran Church, 109 3rd St SE, Madelia, MN. Registration is from 8:30 – 9 a.m. with coffee & treats served in the parish hall. Cost is $8 per person. The theme for the day is “Christian Witness Today”. Rev. Greg Volbrecht, Pastor at Salem will lead the worship in the morning & is the guest speaker. He will speak on 1 Peter 4 concerning faithful Christian witness in the 21st century. The “Gifts from the Heart” will be non-perishable items for the Madelia Community Food Shelf. A lunch will be served at noon.
St John’s Sunday School will begin on September 21stwith a special worship service before Sunday school. More information will be available soon.
The Mankato Chapter of Thrivent will have a workshop on “Social Security: Maximize Your Benefits” on Tuesday, September 23rd. Refreshments at 6:15 and Seminar 6:30 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran College, 700 Luther Drive, Honsey Hall (corner of Marsh & Division Sts.)
