COURSE DESCRIPTION

Introduction to the basic structural and functional relationships of the human body at the cellular, organ, and system levels, including the major histological and gross anatomical structures of the skeletal, muscular, nervous & sensory organs. Anatomy emphasized in the laboratory. Knowledge of chemistry is required.

3 hours lecture; 3 hours laboratory

COURSE OBJECTIVES

·  Demonstrate the knowledge of the anatomical structures of the following: Cells, tissues, integument, skeleton, joints, muscles and nervous system.

·  Develop laboratory skills in dissection with the corresponding identification of structures in the sensory organs and nervous system.

·  Demonstrate basic competence in the use of the microscope.

·  Students will demonstrate understanding of basic terminology, major concepts and fundamental theories in science.

·  Students will analyze a problem and draw conclusion from data and evidence by applying the scientific method.

·  Students will apply scientific theories and principles to solving current issues and problems.

GRADING SYSTEM

The following grades can be earned:

A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, D, F.

If you are a science major or plan to enter the allied health fields, you must earn a minimum grade of C.
