Change Password

Click on Editby your name to open User Information.

Submit a new password to SchoolCenter.

To maximize password security teachers should do the following:

  • Make the password at least seven characters
  • Include at least one number
  • Use lower and upper case letters
  • Do not include your login in the password
  • Click Done to complete the password change.

Preference Tab

May change the text toolbar to text and icons toolbar.

From the Toolbar choose Support(top right). Online Webtools from SchoolCenter: Manuals, Tutorials and Online Help are available.

Make sure you are in Edit Mode (View Mode displayed on the Toolbar).

Choose Edit – Page Settings: Type a title for the Home Page keeping Home in the title. Click Done.

Teachers Website

  • Home – The main page, participants may change the name of the home page but it is best to keep “Home” in the title. (ex.: Ms. Payne’s Home Page).
  • Classroom Calendar – Document events, field trips, parent conferences, etc.
  • Useful Links – A way to add links to a webpage by creating a directory of links to outside web pages. The links may be categorized.
  • Document Manager – Place to upload and store files for your web site. There is a maximum of 10MB per file. (Note: 1,000 KB equals 1MB)
  • Create a Custom Form – A customized form created by the participant that allows parents and/or others to correspond back to the teacher by emailing the completed form.

Some Important Copyright Information to Remember:

  • Participants may use the graphics provided in the SchoolCenter Gallery without giving credit for them.
  • If graphics are used from any other site the participant must make sure that they are permitted to use the graphics (usually listed under terms of use on the website) and that they comply with how the website requires credit to be given.
  • If text is taken from any sort of book, etc., the participant must do the same and cite the title of the book, author, publisher and date published.
  • Participants are permitted to post teacher-made worksheets or other teacher-made items on their site but using a page from a textbook or workbook is not allowed unless they have obtained prior permission from the publisher and give credit to the source.

Scrapbook Basic Style

  • Typed text and images will be placed vertically into one column flowing down the page. (Probably what all teachers have been given).
  • Additional pictures and text boxes will be added vertically down the page.

  • Categories are added and then sorted.
  • By clicking on a category the viewer will be taken to a new page of information about that category.
  • Text, images and tables may be inserted into the category box. Additional text, images, tables, etc. can be added to the new page.
  • Clicking on the Category title will take the viewer to that page.

Scrapbook Newsletter Style

  • Participants are able to add Newsletter Groups and organize information into boxes with column titles and they may also decide how many Groups to be displayed on the home page or over multiple pages.
  • The easiest way to make a Newsletter Style page is to choose Edit – Add Newsletter Groups, chooseAdd Picture & Textand type in the information for the Newsletter Group underneath the title box.
  • Newsletter Groups may take the viewer to new pages.
  • To make each Newsletter Group go to a different page those pages must be added first and the title of the Newsletter Group should be the same as the title of the newly created pages. Example – below left.

Editing the Teacher Website (Home Page)

  • Choose Edit – Page Settings and Details Tab.
  • The teacher may choose “Hide Link inNavigation” button until the page is complete. While the teacher is working on the Home page no one will be able to view the page.
  • Once the page is complete, go back to Edit – Page Settings choosing the Details Tab and uncheck the “Hide Link in Navigation” button.

Babel Fish Language Translation

  • Allows parents to translate the site to their native language. It is best to choose Babel Fish Language Translation for the Home Page.
  • Parents can easily click on the link at the bottom of the page, choose their native language and the teacher’s entire site will change to the chosen language opening in a new window.

Headers and Footers

The current Scrapbook Basic page will not have a Header or Footer but each new Scrapbook page that is added will have a default Header and Footer which can be seen in Edit Mode. Usually these content boxes are left alone and additional text and picture boxes are added in between these two content boxes. If the boxes are left empty the Header and Footer boxes will not be seen in View Mode.

  • The Header could be used for quick announcements on the page and then cleared.
  • Example: PTO tonight at 7:00 pm – Everyone please attend !
  • The Footer could be used to insert contact information for the teacher.
  • Example: Ms. Payne Home Phone: 555-666-1234 – email: .

Adding Text

Choose Edit – Add Picture and Text typing in some text and then click on the Advanced Content Editor. The Editor will open with many options that are used in Word.

Make sure to Save the changes.

Don’t just close the Advanced Content Editor box.

The Content Box may be edited at any time by scrolling over the top left corner to see the Edit Pencil.

Adding an Image

Once Content Boxes have been added to the Home page now insert an image.

  • While in the Advanced Content Editor place the cursor where an image will be inserted.
  • Click on the Tree to Insert/Edit Image.
  • Click on the Browse button (Screen shot below).
  • This will open the SchoolCenter Media Source.
  • Click on the Browse button and select the image saved on the desktop of the computer and click Open.
  • Now click on Upload File and the image will appear for editing.
  • If there are not edits to be made clickDone.
  • One more screen will open – choose Insert.
  • This will place the image into the Advanced Content Editor at the cursor point.

Optional Way to Insert an Image Using the SchoolCenter Gallery

  • While in the Advanced Content Editor place the cursor where an image will be inserted.
  • Click on the Tree to Insert/Edit Image.
  • This will open the SchoolCenter Gallery.
  • Click on SchoolCenter Gallery and notice the alphabet letters on the left side. Type in a key word or click on an alphabet letter to view and select an image.

Once an image has been chosen click on the image and the image will appear in the left as an item.

Click Add to Site to insert the image into the Content Box.

The image will appear at the top of the Content Box. If the image is too small or large the image may be edited by clicking the Edit Penciland choosing Edit Image.

The image may also be located in different areas of the Content Box by clicking on the Pencil and choosing Edit Image Location.

An Image may also be added to a Content Box by clicking on the Pencil in the Context Box where text has been entered and choose Add Image. The SchoolCenter Gallery will open. Follow the above steps to add an image.

Optional Items

Start Page Items:

  • Login Information – your personal information
  • Recently Visited Pages– will show the last five sites visited
  • My Sites – List only the sites you can edit within the school site
  • Notes – Notes to yourself, not seen by anyone else.
  • Task List – List is set by dates not by time. Hover over a task to see the details of that task. Once the task is completed click Done and Save. The task will disappear from the Start Page but this does not delete the task.
  • Documents – Place to upload and store documents for your personal use not viewed in the main webpage.
  • Schedule – Set up meetings or other pertinent items into the daily schedule.
  • Feed Reader – For Podcasting sites, receive up-to-date weather etc. May have up to 10 articles from each feed.
  • Public Sites – Shows the WS/FCS website.

Categories may be set up for each of the above items.

Teachers need to decide what is important to view each time they log into SchoolCenter.

Start Page

  • Choose Organizer – Desktop Settingsto arrange the Start Page items for your use.
  • Choose Organizer – Contactto set up a personal contact list using SchoolCenter users or by manually entering contact information.
  • Choose Support(top right) to access Online Webtools from SchoolCenter.
  • Click on Edit Website link. This will open the teacher’s Home Page.
  • This will be your Home Page.
