Reach and impact / Ariadne is a new project funded by the Big Lottery Fund.
Working with project staff and volunteers from the four partner organisations across Teesside to ensure monitoring & evaluation tools and processes are understood and used.

Context

The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We are part of a global voluntary network, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies. We enable vulnerable people in the UK and abroad to prepare for and withstand emergencies in their own communities. And when the crisis is over, we help them to recover and move on with their lives.

The British Red Cross has a long tradition of providing practical and emotional assistance to vulnerable asylum seekers and refugees. Our trained volunteers provide much needed support to thousands of people every year, helping them to access local services and adjust to life in a new country. The Red Cross’s services include:

·  Providing practical/emotional help to vulnerable asylum seekers and refugees

·  Offering orientation services to help asylum seekers and refugees adapt to life in the UK

·  Providing emergency support for arrivals

·  Providing emergency provisions for those in crisis

We operate refugee support services in Newcastle upon Tyne, Sunderland and Stockton on Tees. From our office in Stockton on Tees we work across the whole of Teesside, with outreach in Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and Redcar/Cleveland.

Scope

Ariadne is a new partnership project between the British Red Cross, Open Door North East, Justice First & Methodist Asylum Project and funded by the Big Lottery Fund for four years. This new post will be line-managed by the British Red Cross but the post holder will also be working closely with staff in the other three partner organisations.

The project officer post has responsibility for ensuring that the monitoring and evaluation framework is implemented and for reporting on the delivery of the outcomes and outputs contained in the project log frame.

The post holder will work closely with the Red Cross refugee support manager who line manages the Red Cross team and with the team managers at Open Door North East, Methodist Asylum project & Justice First

The post holder will also work closely with colleagues in the UKO service development team, quality & outcomes team and research & advocacy team and with the regional communications team.

Overall purpose of the role

·  To be responsible for the successful delivery of the monitoring and evaluation framework.

·  To be responsible for ensuring that all project staff and volunteers (across the four agencies) understand and use the correct monitoring and evaluation tools throughout the life of the project.

·  To play a coordinating and linking role in the delivery and monitoring of the project’s advocacy outcome.

Main responsibilities and duties

1.  To work with project staff and volunteers across the four partner organisations to ensure M&E tools and processes are understood and used

2.  To create and maintain a M&E procedure manual for project staff

3.  To manage the day-to-day operations of the M&E system, including providing support to admin assistants, coordinators and volunteers in the continued implementation of M&E tools and instruments and conducting some of the evaluation tasks directly

4.  To collate M&E data and analyse against outcomes to draw out learning and implications

5.  To ensure information from M&E activities is properly analysed and written up for reporting and learning

6.  To participate in external events in order to undertake M&E related data collection and/or share project evaluation and learning findings

7.  To maintain, monitor and oversee the implementation of the local advocacy plan working with operational, communications and advocacy team colleagues

8.  To design and prepare monthly, quarterly and end of year M&E and advocacy plan progress reports

9.  To chair the quarterly project casework meeting

Requirements

Education and Training

/ /   Educated to degree level (Social Sciences, Development Studies, Information Management) or equivalent by experience **
  Training in social science research methods, relevant to monitoring and evaluation, both quantitative and qualitative

Experience

/ /   Ability to provide good customer service **
  Experience of working in partnership within the voluntary and statutory sector
  Significant project management experience
/   Demonstrable experience working in a monitoring and evaluating role involving the design and implementation and analysis of monitoring, evaluation or research **
  Experience of writing reports **
  Experience of analysing data and drawing conclusions **
