Clubs & Activities

RACS CARES Club-Secretary- 2013-2014: The purpose of the club is to build a college-going culture at Rochester Academy Charter School. For this purpose the Guidance Office developed a College Awareness-Readiness Program. Duties of the secretary; Record and keep accurate minutes of all meetings. Act as correspondence clerk. Print and distribute agenda for all meetings. Responsible for coupon books fundraising campaign and organizing trip to Columbia University Women’s Engineering Forum.
MCC STEP Program (2012 – 2015):STEP (Science & Technology Entry Program):The statewide mission of the Science & Technology Entry Program (STEP) is to increase the number of historically underrepresented and disadvantaged students prepared to enter college and improve their participation rate in mathematics, science, technology, health-related fields, and the licensed professions. STEP is funded in partnership by the New York State Education Department and Monroe Community College.
RACS CRP (College Readiness Program)(2013- 2014) : Volunteered to come in on weekends to study for SAT/ACT and English & Math with a CRP Mentor. CRP mentors guide 4-5 students in their groups. They follow the CRP curriculum during 17 weekends. Attended two overnight camps (Winter and Spring) scheduled in a year. Also attended IVY League Colleges Trip.
Service Club (2012- 2013):Sold bracelets for donation to the Golisano Children’s Hospital. Raised $1,500 from a student body of 400 (at the time)
Prom Committee (2014 – 2015): Planning and organizing fundraisers for Prom. / National Honor Society (2012 – 2015)

Bausch and Lomb Science Award / Awarded to a junior who has attained high achievement and rigor in science classes and high PSAT Math and/or SAT Math scores. This science award medalist is eligible to compete for a Bausch and Lomb Science Scholarship ($30,000) at the University of Rochester. / 11

Community Service:

Book Drive / RACS Reads at Barnes and Noble (2012- 2013) : Volunteered for a book drive to start our schools first library / 5 hrs

Clean Sweep / Clean Sweep (2013 – 2014):State Senators Mike Ranzenhofer and Joe Robach pitched in to support over 50 students and volunteers plant bright flowers in Genesee Street’s 70 curb planters on Saturday, May 24, 2014. Youth and their leaders came from Aenon Missionary Baptist Church, the Rochester Academy Charter School, Girl Scout Troop 60048, Teen Empowerment, St. Monica Church and others. / 5 hrs/
Guidance / Assistant Counselor: Helped lowerclassmen on SAT and ACT registration process and guidance on how to be college and career ready.
Peer Tutor / Tutoring at Dr. Samuel McCree School #4 (2013-2014): Volunteered to help nurture and be a role model to underprivileged children / 2hrs/wk

Summer and Work Experiences

IBERO / IBERO Summer Employment Program / Summer 2013
SUNY OSWEGO / Participants will work with a teacher from their own school and an undergraduate or graduate student from Oswego for 10 weeks. Research groups will have weekly meetings in which students make presentations. High school students will be asked to present their research at the end of the program as well as prepare a research poster with their teacher to present at SUNY OSWEGO Scholarly & Creative Activities Symposium. / Summer
