Discussion of the agenda:

No changeswere made to the agenda.

Announcements:

Janet announced that pension is based on total salary including stipends of highest 5 years. Charlene confirmed that it was the highest 5 years or 20 quarters. Charlene also stated that anyone wanting an estimate of what their pension should be, should contact Human Resources.

New Business:

None.

Old Business:

Michael asked for discussion on ways to improve the process of filling new positions. Discussion ensued about salary compression, unilateral internal transfers of faculty and internal promotions. Faye stated that the committee could make one of three recommendations: (1) faculty member could resign their position and apply for the new one, (2) committee could write a new policy for internal transfers or promotions, or (3) it could stay the same. Steve commented that no one quits their job in order to apply for a new one. There was no resolution of this issue.

Janet reported that she could not get the information from Human Resources about stipend and average chair salary information. She talked to Tom Gruska who was on sabbatical leave this semester. Charlene said that Human Resources will provide what information that they can. Michael and the committee agreed that Janet should continue to work on this.

Reports in Progress:

1. Enrollment minimums – nothing to report.

2. Visiting faculty status – subcommittee is working on this.

3. Faculty benefits and incentives – Gwen reported information so far. The subcommittee looked into free activity cards-currently faculty pay $10 for their activity card. For the fiscal year 2009-2010, faculty paid $280 for the year while the total collected from faculty, staff and community was $2,230. This year, so far: faculty paid $150, total collected is $970. It was the consensus of the committee that free activity cards could be an inexpensive benefit, and Gwen said that she would have the information and a motion ready for the next meeting in January.

4. Part-time faculty – Charlene reported that the subcommittee was going through the criteria used by other universities. For example they found that many universities require part time faculty to wait twice as long before applying for tenure.

Motion to Adjourn: By Candelario, Magdaleno seconded. Unanimously approved. 5:05 pm.
