Chapter 1-Buffy Questions—20 points (Because I can’t count the first time)
1. How is Buffy like a child? Buffy has a playground to play in and plenty of room to run. Buffy also cries when he is put to bed. Buffy cries the first night and sucks the pads of his feet the way a baby would suck its thumb. He is rocked to sleep by his new “parent.”
2. What do you think is the point of this story about Buffy? This story about Buffy and the bottle is to illustrate how Buffy acts like a child. This story shows that Buffy behaves in much the same way as a human baby. He acts like a stubborn infant and does not like being weaned from his bottle.
3. What feelings do the details in the paragraph below describe? The feelings describe are fear and love, and sorrow. (sadness)
4. Do you think that this event was important to the author? Why? Yes, this event was important to the author. Why? The event is clearly important to the author. It explains how Buffy came to trust the writer and how the author came to see himself as Buffy’s guardian.
This was the first sign the bear accepted the narrator as an important member of the family.
5. What is your overall impression of Buffy? Buffy is a bear that is more human than bear. of the author? The author was a caring person and would make a good parent. He was interested in learning about bears in general and Buffy in particular. He found out that he loved Buffy. What gives you this impression? There are many examples on how Buffy has actions of a human child. Examples the baby bottle, crying at night, having a playground and wanting to be rock. The same examples show how the author is a caring person and loves Buffy. The author rocks the bear, and hugs, and protects the bear from the stranger bear.
6. How do you think the author’s experiences with the bear changed the author? The author learns to love not only his wife but the bear. He learns much about bear behavior and how this behavior impacts the author.
