Message from Club President Maria M. Kalapati: Maternal & Child Health

At least 7 million children under the age of five die each year due to malnutrition, poor health care, and inadequate sanitation. To help reduce this rate, we provide immunizations and antibiotics to babies, improve access to essential medical services, and support trained health care providers for mothers and their children. Our projects ensure sustainability by empowering the local community to take ownership of health care training programs.

From our District Governor Cyndi Doragh’s Report

April is Maternal and Child Health Month and I want to challenge each Club, each member, to give thanks for the blessings we have here at home with access to good healthcare providers and medicine to keep our children healthy and strong! Rotarians work to improve access to essential medical services for mothers and their children around the world! These efforts are aimed at reducing the number of children under the age of five who die each year because of malnutrition, inadequate health care and poor sanitation.

More than 80% of maternal deaths are preventable with access to reproductive health services and trained health care workers. Rotary provides education, immunizations, birthing kits and mobile health clinics to support these causes. Women are taught how to prevent mother-to-infant HIV transmissions, how to breast-feed and how to protect themselves and their children from diseases! Simple things, taken for granted here at home, are treasures in third world countries.

The Rotary Foundation helps bring pre-and postnatal care to mothers around the world – did you know that? Rotary is making a difference in so many ways, and this month we need to understand we are saving the lives of young women and children…keep in mind our KENYA DOLLS – we are changing lives around the world, District 6960! Make sure you read President Ravi’s message in April’s Rotarian.

Happy Birthday to:No Birthdays this month -

A Message from our President of Rotary International, K.R. Ravindran

“We in Rotary aspire to great deeds. We admire those who gave great gifts to humanity: Abraham Lincoln, who gave the gift of human dignity to the downtrodden; Mother Teresa, who gave the gift of compassion to the forgotten; Mahatma Gandhi, who gave the gift of peaceful change to the oppressed. Their very lives became gifts to the world.

What we give through Rotary becomes a gift to us. And we all have a choice: whether to keep our gifts to ourselves or give them to others, and Be a Gift to the World.”
