ROSS-SHIRE RIDING CLUB RULES

  1. Show Jumping competitions to be run along the lines of B.S.J.A. SHOWJUMPING RULES. Working Hunter competitions to be run along the lines of B.H.S. rules
  2. Entries sent in late will be charged double the original fee. Changes of class if permitted, on the day, at rider’s request, will also be charged double the entry fee already paid for that class.
  3. Alterations on the day to the Ring Judge’s and Steward’s sheets may be made at Chief Steward’s discretion only.
  4. Entrants should be aware that it is their responsibility to be on time for their class wearing the correct number for the named horse/pony.
  5. If competitors enter more than one class, no guarantee can be given that they will be judges in all the class they enter, due to the timing/clashing of such classes.
  6. Competitors, or their representatives, may not approach the judges uninvited, whilst the judges are in the ring. Penalty will be disqualification from the class and possible the show.
  7. Classes with less than 4 competitors competing may be combined at the organizers discretion.
  8. Competitors starting the season as JUNIORS, must stay as such until the end of the year.( A year is deemed as 1st Jan to 31st Dec)
  9. All objections at shows and events MUST be made in WRITING to the Chief Steward within 30mins of the end of the class, and be accompanied by a £10 deposit – returnable if complaint is up held.
  10. Protective headgear of the recognised standard to be worn at all times while mounted –with a chinstrap securely fastened. Chin cups are not allowed. All juniors, if showing in hand must wear hard hats.
  11. Riders at competitions should be smartly turned out in a jacket, collar and tie or stock and jodhpurs. Boots with heels should also be worn. Rugby shirts and open necked shirts may only be worn at cross-country type events, instruction sessions, or fun days.
  12. Whips should not be longer than 75cms or shorter than 45cms. If in a Judge’s or Steward’s opinion, excessive use is being made of the whip, a competitor may be asked to leave the ring.
  13. Spurs to be of a recognised pattern and correctly fitted may only be worn at the discretion of he Judge or the Steward.
  14. Saddlery must be in good order. Running and Irish martingales are allowed, but no other forms of check reins are permitted.
  15. For safety reasons, jewellery ie earrings and nose rings are not to be worn. Hair should be secured safely, preferably in a hairnet.
  16. For safety reasons, horses/ponies should only WALK anywhere outside of practise ring or showing rings.
  17. Dogs must be kept on a non-extendable lead at all times.
  18. A novice is determined as a horse and rider combination NOT having been placed 1st or 2nd on any two or more occasions in that discipline. If anyone wants to enter a novice class, having been placed 1st or 2nd on any two or more occasions, then they must enter and compete as HC. Entering a class at Intermediate or open level then changing down a class, means you must HC. HC means non competitive.
  19. A horse or pony must be 4 years old or more to take part in mounted events.
  20. Horse passports may be required for viewing
  21. The Judges decision is final.
  22. The committee of the Ross-shire Riding Club reserves the right to review and amend these rules should the need arise.
  23. These are the rules for Ross-shire Riding Club. Other clubs and horse societies may have different rules by which you will have to abide if you enter their events.
