Room Parent Guidelines and Responsibilities

P.T.A. ROOM PARENTS
2009-2010

ROOM PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help assist the Room Parent Committee with ONE classroom party with the Party Assistants assigned to that party.
  • Coordinate with the other two Room Parents to plan Teacher Appreciation Week for their class.
  • Assist with Teacher Appreciation Week for their class
  • Kindergarten & 1st Grade room parents assist the PTA committee with American Education Breakfast.
  • 2nd Grade room parents assist the hospitality committee with the Teacher Appreciation gift cards (collection & distribution).
  • 3rd Grade room parents assist the hospitality committee with the Teacher Appreciation Breakfast.
  • 4th Grade room parents assist with the 5th Grade Celebration.
  • 5th Grade room parents assist the hospitality committee with the Teacher Appreciation Breakfast.

ROOM PARENT “LIAISON” (Fall room parent) RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The volunteers chosen (FALL Room Parents) will act as a liaison between the Room Parents in your class, the classroom teacher, and the Room ParentCommittee.
  • Arrange a meeting with the other two Room Parents to plan Teacher Appreciation Week for their class.

CLASS PARTIES:

  • Party dates are as follows:
  • Fall- Friday, 10/30 (1:50 costumes on, 2:10-2:30-parade, 2:30-3:15 parties)
  • Winter- Friday, 12/18 ( 2:30-3:15)
  • Valentine’s Day/5th grade Sock Hop- Friday, 2/12 ( 2:30-3:15)

PARTY GUIDELINES:

  • These guidelines have been established by the PTA for fairness to all the students.
  • Room Parents –please share the following information with the party assistants.
  • The Room Parent Committee will be responsible for purchasing and distributing the snacks and drinks for all the parties. No other food or drinks of any kind are permitted during the parties. This includes food that may be used for crafts or games. (i.e. candy corn, candy canes, valentine hearts.)
  • To promote Fairness (one of Patterson’s Positive points)NOgoody bags are to be given at any of the parties.
  • Room Parents and Party Assistants will be allowed into the rooms 15 minutes early to set up for the party.
  • All volunteers must check-in prior to entering the classrooms. Please allow for this as you plan your arrival time.
  • Dry ice may not be used at class parties.
  • Please end parties promptly at 3:15 and assist the teacher in returning the room back to its pre-party condition.
  • Please exit the school grounds immediately after the party to limit the congestion during pick-up time. Please adhere to all posted parking signs on the side streets and school grounds.
  • Remember to have fun!
  • Please remember that these parties are a privilege. Keeping within the party guidelines will ensure that our children will continue to enjoy classroom holiday parties at Patterson.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK:

  • All Room Parents will assist in coordinating Teacher Appreciation Week. Teacher Appreciation Week is May 3-7. Room Parents will distribute a letter asking the parents for a DONATION to be used toward the purchase of teacher gifts. (This letter will be provided for you closer to Teacher Appreciation Week with specific donation guidelines.) Keep in mind that participation in Teacher Appreciation activities or donations are voluntary.

FLYER APPROVAL FORM:

  • All letters sent home must have the approval of the Principal, and the PTA President. They should be attached to the Flyer Approval Form, and placed in the Principal’s mailbox. She will then turn it over to the PTA President. After the flyer has been approved by both people, it will be placed in the FLYER APPROVAL FILE, located in the blue PTA crate in the office. This procedure requires approximately 2-3 days. An alternate option is to e-mail your flyer or letter to:
