HOURS:37-hour week, Term Time only

(8.15am-4.15pm Mon-Thurs; 8.15am-

3.45pm Friday)

Purpose of the primary post

To lead and manage a continent, within a continent based, vertical tutoring system. Student Welfare Leaders will be expected to promote a continent ethos of social responsibility and global awareness.

Responsibilities will include effectively leading and managing a group of continent tutors, to ensure high standards of attendance, punctuality, behaviour, achievement and progress in learning is maintained, while working to minimise or remove the barriers to learning caused by social, emotional, behavioural or other difficulties encountered by students.

Main Duties/Responsibilities to include aspects of the following

  • To be responsible for leading Continent tutors to improve student behaviour, progress, attendance, and to support learning as necessary.
  • To be responsible for the day-to-day operation of a continent.
  • To work within a specific continent focussing on the achievement, attainment and behaviour for learning, of our students.
  • To liaise with teaching staff to assess and provide particular support to targeted students to raise achievement and enable them to overcome barriers to learning.
  • To liaise with curriculum leaders or lead learners to support intervention strategies for all sub- groups including,pupil premium, able gifted and talented.
  • To be responsible for the tracking and monitoring of all looked after children in a specific continent by providing evidence of impact through case studies.
  • To work closely with Continent tutors to support high levels of attendance and punctuality.
  • To devise strategies and action plans for students whose attendance is below expectations.
  • To work to support attendance and punctuality and to identify and respond to additional needs or safeguarding issues.
  • To cover classes of absent colleagues as and when appropriate.
  • To work with parents/carers to help address poor performance/attendance/behaviour. Undertake home visits to keep parents/carers informed and secure positive family support.
  • To liaise and work with identified support agencies to facilitate their input with individual students.
  • To work with identified students on an individual mentoring basis and to operate small group work where appropriate.
  • To organise and facilitate, in liaison with other staff where appropriate, year group specific activities such as reward visits and year specific functions such as the options process, annual celebration assemblies and awards ceremonies.
  • To organise and chair half-termly year meetings with form teachers
  • To actively engage and liaise with students’ parents/carers to support their children’s progress in school.
  • To attend and contribute to organising parents’ evenings.
  • Monitor the implementation of plans and report on progress achieved, support the re-integration of students excluded from school or following an alternative timetable.
  • To liaise with appropriate staff to support the development and monitoring of support plans for individuals such as IEPs or PSPs.
  • To take responsibility for the running and contribute to year group assemblies.
  • To liaise and work with appropriate staff to promote smooth transition for targeted students between key stages, including KS2/3, KS3/4 and KS4/5.
  • To monitor and evaluate the implementation of action plans for individual students, contribute to the review of these plans and maintain detailed records.
  • To encourage students to engage in out of hours learning opportunities.
  • To attend multi-agency meetings as part of the CAF process to support the wellbeing of our students.

The above range of duties is not exhaustive but should be interpreted as generic guidelines of the range of duties to be undertaken. Other duties at the same level and of a similar nature may be interchanged or added to the list at any time following consultation. In addition to the skills, knowledge and experienced described, you may be required to undertake a lower graded role as appropriate.
