* Rev. Jerry Falwell died in Lynchburg, Virginia on May 15, 2007. Whether or not you agreed with his religious or political beliefs, he was an “outstanding human being” and our prayers go out to his family and friends. Many years ago he and I had the same barber in Lynchburg. I did not know him personally but on two different occasions at the barbershop, I had a chance to have small talk with him. On these occasions he always had a smile and was a very pleasant person to talk with. It is my belief that very few people anywhere had such a positive impact on so many people over a 50-year period. He will be missed.
*All officers are facilitators/organizers/ managers or whatever of ODBSA. Each and every one of the officers spend extra time preparing for the events and sometimes missing some of the events to perform their duties, all of which is to make ODBSA run smoothly for everyone’s benefit. No one, including myself, has used their own money to start or run this Association; it is your contributions to the Iron-in-the-hat raffle with donating items/purchasing tickets and the auctions that keep this computer site up, mailing of the Newsletters and pay expenses like the fabulous master smiths that we have had. It is “your” Association because of what you do. I just wanted to thank each and everyone one of you for attending/participating in the events and especially the officers for all that they put into ODBSA. With all of your support, we (officers) hope to continue bringing you the best opportunity that we can to learn this craft.
*Thank you Bob Saxon, one of ODBSA newest members, for donating two Blacksmithing books (Farm Blacksmithing and Forging)to our Library. Remember that Wendell Wyland our Vice Pres. brings all the Library to each and every event for you. He says that you can check the books, dvds, etc outfor up to three months. Wendell now has over 19 blacksmithing books and 16 DVDs available to check outfrom our Library and at no cost to ODBSA members. By donating/loaning books etc to the Library is just another way that all ODBSA members help other members with their generosity. It's all about sharing.
