thyroid malignancy in thyroid nodules with indeterminate cytology in the Asian population
Major Achievements:
2010 to current - Set up the Endocrine Surgical Unit in Khoo Teck PuatHospital to provide the full range of surgical operations for benign and malignant thyroid disorders, primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism and benign and malignant adrenal disorders.
2010 - Pioneered the introduction of MIVAT – (Minimally Invasive Video-assitedThyroidecotmy) in Singapore. Currently KTPH is the only public hospital offering this surgery to patients. Results of our cases series has been published in World Journal of Endocrine Surgery.
2011 to current : Introduced the new concept of a – ONE-STOP THYROID CLINICfor “quadruple assessment” of thyroid nodules in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital to improve work flow, reduce waiting times and make healthcare more cost-effective.
August 2011 – Invited Speaker at the 10Th Asia Pacific Congress of Endoscopic Surgery, Singapore
Lecture topic – Laparoscopic Adrenalectomy- Posterior Approach.
March 2012 – Member of Local Organizing Committee & Treasurer for the 13th Asian Association of
Endocrine Surgeons Congress 2012 in Singapore.
August 2012 – Appointed Adjunct Assistant Professor of Surgery, National University of Singapore.
Oct 2014 – Presented the results and follow-up of the first 63 patients undergoing MIVAT in Singapore at the combined surgical meeting held in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
May 2015 – Invited speaker for SPACES 2015 – Advanced Endocrine Surgery Workshop organized in NUHS, Singapore.
2016 - Appointed Member of Ministry of Health, Singapore – General Surgery Working Committee on under–graduate Medical Education : to review and standardise the GS curriculum across the three medical schools.
2016: Appoint Associate Professor of Surgery at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine , Singapore.
Summary (Five lines):
I am actively involved in undergraduate and post-graduate surgical training and mentoring of junior doctors and specialize in the field of minimally invasive endocrine surgery. My main strengths are in the field of thyroid surgery and aiming to perform the work-up and management of this common problem in a cost-effective approach.
