Waste Management as a science is only been practiced in Zambia only in the resent past and the Institute has been instrumental in championing the cause. It has been considered as one of those mandates of the local authority. In order to inculcate the knowledge of Waste management, the Institute in conjunction with the Lusaka Waste Management Unit, embarked on a School out-reach Programme. This involves dissemination of Waste Management Information among Schools through structured talks and information leaflet distribution. Furthermore, students from colleges are being assisted in development of waste management academic projects. Furthermore the WMU has been hosting a number of schools on study tours of the Landfill and the other waste management facilities.

8.0.WASTE MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE AND CONGRESS

Traditionally members on the Institute have been attending the bi-annual WasteCon and the Chapter WasteCon organised by the Botswana Chapter. The Zambian Chapter is now discussing hosting a WasteCon in Zambia. This will not only make the Institute more visible, but will greatly elevate waste Management high on the National Agenda.

We will in this light rely on the Secretariat for technical and possibly financial support in organising the Conference possibly before the Next International WasteCon.
