1.1Sign briefly on one topic of their choice including at least 6 phrases and at least 1 question and 1 request / offer using the following
  • relevant everyday vocabulary
  • clear signing
and the following as appropriate to the context
  • polite conventions
  • simple information using numbers (1–1000)

2.1Sign on a chosen topic using at least 8 phrases including the
following
  • at least 1 expression of like/dislike or intention
  • relevant everyday vocabulary
  • simplest ways of expressing past, present and future tenses where appropriate to the language
  • simple, commonly used positive and negative statements
  • clear signing to express meaning clearly
  • appropriate facial expression
and the following as appropriate to the context
  • simple numbers (within the range 1–1000)

RECEIVING SKILLS IN BRITISH SIGN LANGUAGE
1.1Watch a dialogue or monologue in the target language of at
least 16 utterances which includes the following
  • identifying fingerspelling
  • simplest ways of expressing past, present and future tenses where appropriate to the language
  • relevant everyday vocabulary
  • positive and negative structures
  • simple numbers (within the range 1–1000)
and the following as appropriate to the context
  • polite conventions
  • formal or informal language
1.2Answer a minimum of 5 specific questions related to the
above in writing or British Sign Language
DIALOGUE IN BRITISH SIGN LANGUAGE
1.1Participate in a two way dialogue using British Sign Language about familiar events for 3-4 minutes to include the following
  • evidence to show understanding i.e. repeating back or asking relevant questions
  • ability to identify the short letter fingerspelling and fingerspelling back to show evidence that they understand
  • positive and negative structures
  • relevant everyday vocabulary
  • polite conventions
  • the simplest ways of expressing at least 2 tenses (i.e. past, present, or future)
  • clear signing to express meaning clearly
  • at least 3 questions from the learner
  • a response to at least 2 unknown open questions
  • offer or ask for help or information
and the following as appropriate to the context
  • simple numbers (within the range 1–1000)
  • asking for clarification of meaning if needed
