Please find enclosed the following information regarding theapplication process for the 2015-2016WCSSAA Scholarships:

Regulations regarding Selection of Candidates

1. One (1) Application Form for Male applications

One (1) Application Form for Female applicants

Please pay careful attention in the following:

A)WCSSAA Rule #3: Criteria for Selection

B)No more than 1 FEMALE and 1 MALE candidate per school can be nominated

C)The APPLICATION FORM should be typed and be accompanied by a brief COVER LETTER from the Candidate reflecting on his/her contributions and qualifications for the award

D)Please include a TRANSCRIPT and the candidate’s most current University level marks

E)Applications must be returned to or the D169 Phys. Ed. Office by 11:30 amFriday, May 20, 2016.

The WCSSAA Scholarship was formulated to recognize outstanding contributions to school and community by both male and female graduating student athletes, who are enrolling in a post-secondary education program. Each year there will be one (1) Male and one (1) Female award, subject to suitable applications.

The coordination of the WCSSAA Scholarship Award Program is the responsibility of the Physical & Health Education Subject Association on behalf of the WCSSAA Executive.In the event of onegender not having a suitable applicant, 2 awards may be given to worthy applicants of the other gender

1. The Committee of FIVE (5) members of the Board of Directors should include at least ONE (1) member of the following:

i)A member of the Executive

ii)A Vice Principal

iii)A Physical Education Head

iv)A Principal or designate

1. The guidelines for selection of the student athletes will be as follows:

i)School Athletic Contributions

a)Breadth of involvement

b)Demonstrated leadership qualities

ii)School Non-Athletic Contributions

a)Breadth of involvement

b)Demonstrated leadership qualities

iii)Community Contributions

a)Breadth of involvement

b)Demonstrated leadership qualities

iv)Academic achievement

a)Preference will be given to candidates enrolling in a Physical Education related course

b)Grades should be of a level to ensure success in their chosen program

1. The Finances for the program – currently two (2) awards at five hundred dollars ($500) will be derived from the WCSSAA funds.

1. The WCSSAA Scholarship timelines are as follows:

May 20, 2016...... Applications submitted to Committee Chair

TBD, 2016...... Selection Committee meets

June 1, 2016...... WCSSAA Scholarship Winners announced
