HOLIDAY ASSIGNMENT

SOCIAL STUDIES

  1. Cut out TEN photos each of women and men hairstyles. Make an album with them.Remember to write the name of each hairstyle.
  2. Find out the story behind the ‘dada’ (dreadlocks)children.

HOME ECONOMICS

  1. Examine yourself or your sibling who is an adolescent. What changes can you observe in your/his/her body, moods and behaviors? Write down these changes and a short note on possible causes.
  2. List all the foods commonly eaten in your community. Group them according to the nutrients contained in each type of food.

CIVIC EDUCATION

Read old and current newspapers and magazines. Find news or articles on human rights. Also listen to news on radio and television. Do this for one week. Make a note of all you have read/heard. Group the information you obtained under the following headings:

  1. Issues in fundamental human rights.
  2. Issues on rights of the child
  3. Issues on right of women.
  4. Issues on violation of rights

BUSINESS STUDIES

  1. Visit a market in your locality
  1. Identify all the aids to trade that you can observe
  2. List ten goods that are sold there.
  3. Write the names of the producers of these goods.

COMPUTER STUDIES

  1. Make a print out of classification of computers based on size.
  1. Make a print out of a well label system unit.

MATHEMATICS

  1. Make a printed scrap book of at least seven 2 dimensional objects and at least seven 3-dimensional objects.
  2. Itemise 5 properties of each of the objects in number one in your scrap book.

DRAMA

  1. Write a short play of not more than 5 characters and scenes.
  2. Itemize 5 costumes used in drama
  3. List all the types of stage you know
  4. Mention 3 stage actors and write short notes on them.

HISTORY (ANCIENT CIVILIZATION)

  1. Read some of Shakespeare’s sonnets, and find out about the structure of the sonnets. Write your own.
  2. Take a day to observe your environment with a keen eye. Try not to have any preconceptions about how things look. Sit quietly and examine a flower, a leaf, a shell or some other natural objects. Do some drawings as if you were Leonardo Da Vinci, looking at the same object from many different angles and in different positions. You can put several drawings on the same page. Try drawing upside down – you might get interesting results.

ENGLISH STUDIES

  1. Write a letter to your sister who has just arrived in a city to live with an uncle, advising her to be well behaved while in the city.
  2. Write a composition on the topic, “Myself in the Future.”
  3. Read a short novel of your choice and summarise in 3 paragraphs only.

  1. List three elements that are common to all religions.
  2. Mention five ways of showing Christian love.

AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE

1. What is soil? How is soil formed?

2. Enumerate the ways by which soil fertility may be maintained.

  1. What is a vector?
  2. Make a scrap book of different disease vectors and the disease.

Research and type a 5-page note on Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

FRENCH

  1. Learn 50 new words in French (Parts of the body, household items, days of the week, months of the year, etc.) Tabulate the words and their meanings in English
