QAS Families,

Welcome back to a brand new school year! It is my pleasure to be back for my third year as the K-8 P.E./Health Physical Education teacher at Queen of All Saints. We have a lot of fun activities planned this year and I can’t wait to share them with your children. Please feel free to follow the QAS P.E. twitter page this year and stay updated and active with us! I thought it would be beneficial to inform you about some updates that have been made regarding the Physical Education policies and procedures.

In the first P.E. class students will create their own rules, goals, and purpose statement for the year. This will allow each class to collaborate and create the expectations as a team. The following explains my policies and I would appreciate your help in making this a smooth school year for all.

Behavior Policies:

  • 1st warning= Teacher Warning/Verbal Redirection.
  • 2nd warning= Teacher Warning/Verbal Redirection/ Teacher-Student Conference.
  • 3rd warning= Verbal Redirection/Teacher-Student Conference/ Parent Phone Call/Yellow Behavior Slip.

Participation:In order to participate in class all students MUST be wearing their PE attire. Physical Education is mostly a performance based subject. Active participation heavily impacts student’s assessments and grades.

Out of P.E. Uniform Policy:

Students will receive a yellow slip after third time of not wearing the proper P.E. uniform. This is per quarter.

Students in grades K-5 will wear their P.E uniform to school on the days that they have P.E. However, if it is a mass today and they are participating in the mass they will wear regular uniform and then change into P.E. uniform after mass.

Students in grades 6-8 will wear regular school uniform to school on P.E. days and change into their P.E. uniform before coming to class. They will be given time before P.E. class to change in to P.E. uniform and time after P.E. class to change back into school uniform.

Please see the 2016-2017 Parent/Student Handbook for the P.E. dress code.

Tardies for 6th-8th grade:

See Upper School Tardy policy.

Class Assignments: Throughout the year there will be opportunities for students to work with a partner and/or groups (fitness logs, dance routines, partner work outs etc.) Most of these assignments will be done during class time.

Homework: Occasionally throughout the academic year students may be assigned short homework assignments over information learned in P.E. and Health class. Some homework assignments are to encourage students to be physically active outside of class.

Illness or Injury Policy: We understand fully that students can become injured or ill at some point in time. If your child is going to be out of class due to injury or illness they must either have a parent note or a medical note from a physician. A parent note will only allow the student to be excused up to 3 days, after that it MUST be a medical excuse from a physician. If a student is medically excused from physical education class, they will be required to verify that they have been released and are able to return to class with a physician’s permission.

All classroom policies and procedures reflect the 2016-2017 Queen of All Saints Parent/StudentHandbook.

After reading through these new policies and procedures, please sign and return to Coach Lanctot by Friday August 19th, 2016.
