Main Purpose of Role: / Provide supportto Facilities Maintenance team in relation to health and safety activities. Monitor and advise on safe working practices and ensure adherence to safe systems of work and robust proceduresare carried out throughout the department.
KeyResponsibilities
andAccountabilities: /
  • Provide information and guidance on the measures necessary to comply with the requirements of health and safety legislation, HSE Approved Code of Practice and Guidance Documents and industry specific guidance, in order to ensure statutory and university insurance compliance.
  • Undertake audit compliance activity e.g. plant rooms checks; MEWPS checks; ladder inspections; permits to work and assisting in HAVS monitoring.
  • Provide administrative support to the Legionella system and audit and monitor users and usage to ensure legislative compliance and follow up remedial actions.
  • Assist in the co-ordination of Facilities Statutory and Health and Safety training requirements and deliver relevant in house health & Safety training ie. Manual Handling; COSHH; Ladder; Health and Safety awareness and on line fire training to Facilities staff at appropriate times that accommodate various shift patterns.
  • Undertake the Area Safety Health Environment Co-ordinator’s (ASHEC) responsibilities for Facilities and support the annual reporting, planning and monthly reviews relating to all HSE plans and proactively work with the Strategic Health and Safety lead to develop and provide a culture of positive health, safety and compliant management within Facilities.
  • Working with the maintenance manager, schedule defects/reactive jobs to the trades team using the relevant in-house software and monitor and report on related SLAs and required follow up actions.

Special Circumstances: / Facilities Support Services are provided 24 hours per day/365 days per year. This post is expected to work flexibly over 7 days to meet service requirements and to respond out of hrs to incidents as required.

Essential
QualificationsandProfessionalMemberships:
  • Educated to A level or equivalent or possess equivalent depth of experience in comparable role.
  • NEBOSH qualification.

Knowledge andExperience:
  • Ability to plan and organize work.
  • Demonstrable skills and experience in health and safety, particularly relating to statutory compliance in a maintenance service.
  • Experience of working in a maintenance service.

Desirable
Qualifications and Professional Memberships:
  • Nebosh qualification.
  • Maintenance qualification.

Knowledge andExperience:
  • Experience in defect allocation /use of Tririga software.
  • Delivery of training.
  • Experience in a maintenance discipline.
