Sports Awards 2016 – Criteria

For each of the awards below, the following essential criteria applies:

-All nominees must live, attend a school or represent a club in the Blaby District

-Nominees must be nominated for activities that have or are taking place between 1st October 2015 and 1st November 2016

-Nominees cannot nominate themselves but can be nominated by a parent/guardian

-Nominees of all abilities (able bodied and disabled), gender, race and age (within the criteria) are encouraged to be nominated for the Blaby Local Sports Alliance Sports Awards

The following specific criteria apply to each award:

Awards Criteria

Volunteer of the Year / Nominee has made a positive impact on others through giving their time for free in a sport and physical activity environment.
Has contributed to volunteering in Blaby District to encourage more people to start, stay or succeed in sport andphysical activity.
Widening access to sport and physical activity through their contribution.
An inspiration and positive role model for participants and their peers.
Has demonstrated considerable commitment
Has built strong relationships and links with clubs,
Schools and/or other community organisations.
Assistant Coach, administrator or any other role that assists the success and development of community sport, on a purely voluntary basis.
Coach of the Year / Must be a qualified coach to at least level 1 UKCC standard
Has contributed to coaching in Blaby District to encourage more people to start, stay or succeed in sport andphysical activity.
Has coached a team, club or individual to sporting success, locally, regionally or nationally
Has made a significant difference to the level at which their club, team or individual competes at
Has acted as a tutor to develop other coaches/volunteers within a their club or local community
Is an inspiration and positive role model for participants and their peers.
Has built strong relationships and links with clubs,
Schools and/or other community organisations.
Team of the Year (16+) / School or community sports teams are eligible for nomination in this category.
The team has achieved sporting success in the last 12 months
Must be competing within a league for their sport with substantial success
Demonstration of dedication and commitment from the team members and those involved in supporting the team (e.g. coaches).
If the nominated team is from a community club, that club must have or be working towards their NGB accreditation / Clubmark award.
Young Team of the Year / School or community sports teams are eligible for nomination in this category
Teams must be under the age of 16 during the eligibility period
Must be competing within a league for their sport with substantial success
The team has displayed excellence in their chosen sport. Details of rankings and achievements made during the eligibility period must be given.
Demonstration of dedication and commitment from the team members and those involved in supporting the team (e.g. coaches).
If the nominated team is from a club, that club must have or be working towards their NGB accreditation / Clubmark award
Sports Person of the Year (16+) / A sports man or woman who has excelled and/or exceeded expectations in their chosen sport. Rankings and achievements made during the eligibility period must be given. Examples of local, county, regional, national and international competitions entered with placings.
Has achieved county, regional or national success within their chosen sport over the past season/12 months
Have demonstrated considerable commitment to their sport.
Are an inspiration and positive role model to others
Have used their achievements and experiences to make a positive impact on their community and /or club.
Must be aged 16+ during the qualifying period.
Sports Person (with a disability) of the Year (16+) / A sports man or woman with a learning and/or physical disability who has excelled and /or exceeded expectations in their chosen sport. Rankings and achievements made during the eligibility period must be given. Examples of local, county, regional, national and international competitions entered with placings.
Have demonstrated considerable commitment.
Are an inspiration and positive role model to others
Have used their achievements and experiences to make a positive impact on their community and /or club.

Have used their achievements and experiences to make a positive impact on their community and /or club.
Must be aged under 16 during the qualifying period.
Active 4 life – Health & Wellbeing Award / Individual nomineesaged 18 or over making a significant achievement during the eligibility period, family or group entries also eligible
Nominees must have used Physical Activity or a Health related activity as a positive influence on their lifestyle and / or used this to influence others
Examples; making significant change to physical activity levels through Active Together projects, exceeding targets through GP Referral programme, quitting smoking and influencing others to quit through NHS Stop Smoking Service, recovering from a mental health difficulty through accessing sport etc.
Blaby LSA Special Recognition award / This special award recognises an individual who has made an outstanding contribution and dedication to sport and physical activity in Blaby District – a real unsung hero.

Gone above and beyond the call of duty.
