Dear Parents and Children

It is proposed that Year _____ or Class ______will be visiting Heysham Power Stationduring the week beginning______. We are not stating the exact date as it may, understandably, depend on the weather.

The educational purpose of this visit are:

1)To look at a local place of industry

2)To find out about what the Power Station is used for and about the science behind electricity production

3)To compare what has been learnt in school with what we see on the visit

And the children may be involved in the following activities:

  • Walking to and from the Power Station
  • Meeting the education team at the Power Station and looking at the Visitor Centre, with possible visit into the Power Station itself
  • Taking photos/writing journal notes/drawing pictures connected to the visit

For the trip your child will need to bring:

  • Appropriate clothing for the weather including waterproof, hat, gloves, sunglasses, suncream (dependent on time of year)
  • School uniform
  • No money is needed and no cameras or other electronic devices are to be brought

The staff and volunteers going on this trip will be:

All staff and volunteers have a Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate (or CRB certificate) which has been checked by the school.

If you need to contact the leader of the trip during the visit, then please contact the school office on 01524 851043 and they will contact the leader who will return your call if necessary. Please make sure we have your up to date contact information especially if you have recently changed your mobile telephone number.

If the trip is running late at all, a text will be sent out to all parents alerting them of the estimated return time.

You will be aware that the school holds medical information for your child. Please can you make sure that the school is made aware of any recent changes to your child’s medical conditions or if they have been recently unwell. If they require travel sickness medication, please ensure that it has been given in a timely fashion prior to departure.

If your child requires any medication whilst on the trip, please hand this over in a clearly labelled envelope/box/bag/bottle to the trip leader or classteacher.

Please note that this visit is covered by Lancashire County Council’s public liability insurance, but there is no personal accident insurance for your child. If you feel that this is necessary, you will need to make separate arrangements.

Please remind your child that we have an expected behaviour code at all times for children on trips and activities and that we reserve the right not to take any child who we feel may not behave as expected or may cause too much concern regarding safety for themselves or others.

If you feel you would like to help out on this trip and either have a DBS (CRB) certificate which can be shown, or would like to apply for DBS registration then please speak to the trip leader. Some trips may not require additional adults.

The school completes a risk assessment for each trip, and copies of this can be requested from the trip leader should they be required.

As this is a local trip you do not need to respond to this letter unless you do not want your child to go, in which case please ring the school office on 01524 851043.

Yours sincerely

Trip Leader
