Job Description

Job Title:Catering and Hospitality Tutor (Subject Lead)

Reports to:Curriculum Co-ordinator

Salary Scale: £19,052 to £26,377

JOB PURPOSE

The post holder will deliver high quality learning and assessment to students at BridgeCollege

The post holder will be required to develop and lead on an innovative and progressive curriculum in the area of Catering and Hospitality.The post holder will be required to design and manage person centred individual learning plans (ILPs) and to set comprehensive targets. The post holder will be required to self assess the subject area and provide evaluations and updates of progress at regular intervals throughout the academic year.

BridgeCollege has a large multi-disciplinary team which comprises of teachers, support staff, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists. It is essential that the post holder works collaboratively with this multi-disciplinary team to ensure the needs of students are addressed and learning is accessible and inclusive. The post holder will also work collaboratively with a range of partners to facilitate student progression.

The post holder will be expected to proactively promote excellent health and safety practices

The post holder will ensure that they keep up to date with industry related standards and other professional development pertaining to their role.

The post holder will be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the student body.

NATURE OF THE POST

BridgeCollege is the Together Trust’s specialist education college for students aged 16 to 25 years with disabilities, complex needs and autism. BridgeCollege promotes a multidisciplinary approach to learning and has expertise in supporting students with a wide range of needs.

The post holder will be based in Openshaw, the College’s new campus.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Lead on the creation of a progressive and innovative curriculum which clearly evidences accreditation opportunities and the RARPA process in the area of Catering and Hospitality
  • To deliver high quality learning and assessment to students at BridgeCollege
  • To work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure the needs of the students are addressed and learning is accessible and inclusive
  • Design and management of person centred individual learning plans (ILPs) and to set comprehensive targets
  • To manage support staff
  • To work collaboratively with a range of partners to facilitate

student progression

  • To build external links with agencies to improve the learner experience in term time and non term time
  • Safeguarding students and colleagues
  • To develop and deliver value added activities specific to the area of specialism
  • Planning and delivery of learning within the college teaching day and contract – which may include evening and other out of hours working
  • Assessment and tracking of progress and achievement, including internal verification and fulfilling the requirements of Awarding Bodies
  • Recording and use student and management data to support good and outstanding progress by students
  • To work effectively and professionally within, and as necessary lead, a multidisciplinary team
  • Attend meetings, staff development and other key events as required – including out of hours activities from time to time
  • Prepare reports, progress records and other documents as required
  • To self assess subject area through the completion of a self assessment report
  • Lead on and pro-actively promote equality and diversity , and health and safety practices within the subject area of catering and hospitality
  • Work with the Funding and Community Partnership Manager to develop an enterprise for the subject area of Catering and Hospitality

Personal Specification

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Degree/Level 3 in a related vocational area
  • PGCE/PGDE in post compulsory education or other relevant teaching qualification related to the role or willingness to work towards
  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Completion of Food Hygiene (minimum Level 2)

Desirable:

  • Specialised qualification(s) in learning disabilities and/or autism
  • Training in managing disabilities and medical conditions associated with students with learning disabilities/autism
  • MIDAS trained or willingness to undertake within first year of employment
  • Training in Makaton or other forms of sign language

Experience

Essential:

  • Relevant industry experience in Catering and Hospitality
  • Experience of developing a curriculum, and accreditation of learning
  • Experience of working with and teaching young people with learning difficulties and disabilities
  • Experience of working with a range of partners and employers
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Desirable:

  • Experience of leading a curriculum area and experience of curriculum evaluation to inform self assessment
  • Experience of further and specialist education quality systems

Knowledge

Essential:

  • Knowledge and understanding of non accredited learning programmes and RARPA
  • Knowledge and understanding of accredited learning, assessment and moderation processes

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of TEACCH, SCIPr and Intensive Interaction Practices

  • Ability to commit to evening meetings, value added recreational and residential activities, parents evenings and open evenings which may be outside normal college hours

Essential:

  • Full and clean driving licence, including business use insurance on own vehicle

Additional information

The work at the Trust for those working directly with the service users can on occasion be physically demanding and employees must be able to undertake in full the requirements of the job and requisite training.

For the safety of staff and the service users, training will be provided to assist employees to carry out their role, specifically the Movement & Management of Loads & People, Emergency First Aid and PROACT SCIPr UK training (this provides staff with the skills to carry out the sometimes necessary safe holds in a non threatening way). Employees will be required to fully participate in all training.
