This issue of the Journal contains four articles written by eminent economists and authors. Prof. Ayubur Rahmn Bhuyan in his paper, ‘The Performance of the Bangladesh Economy in 2012-13 and Future Prospect’ tries to present a critical review of the country’s economic performance during the first few months of Fy13. The paper focuses on the state of the real economy, growth of GDP and its corporate sectors, monetary and credit developments, public revenue and expenditure, external sector developments and inflation. It evaluates the performance of the major sectors of the economy and presents the outlook for GDP growth in the present fiscal. The paper also highlights developments in money and capital markets and apprises the Bangladesh Bank’s latest monetary policy statement and also points out some weaknesses in the banking sector policy regime that needs to be addressed by the central bank
Sarwar Md. Saifullah Khaled in his paper ‘Islamic Economy may effectively replace Global Capitalism for Human Well-being’ attempts to review and explain the philosophy behind the recent awakening in the form of ‘Occupy Wall Street’ movement in protest of Capitalistic and corporate business’s merciless exploitation. The paper tries to assert that the gainers of global capitalism and corporate business are only 1% rich around the world at the cost of 99% world population. According to the paper capitalism always favours the rich minority and socialism also failed to redress the problems of the downtrodden. The paper suggests that Islam is the only way out of this malice.
Tahmina Rahman in her paper ‘Issues and concerns in Formulation Policies for Agricultural Sector: Bangladesh Perspective’ highlights the existing policies in agriculture together with their shortcomings and discusses some conceptual issues like major policy instruments and their use in influencing agricultural sector growth problems arising out of market imperfection, role of technology etc. The paper concludes with some recommendations.
Md Mahabbat Hossain and A. N. K. Mizan in their paper ‘Earnings Diversification and EPS of Islamic Banks in Bangladesh’ make an attempt to identify the levels of earnings diversification of Islamic banks in Bangladesh as well as how these banks are serving the interest of the stakeholders.
The paper suggests that the banks should diversify their sources of earnings but these should not be dominating ones by replacing the traditional activities of banks.

General Guidelines for Contributions
- Contributions can be made in both English and Bangla languages in the form of articles on Islamic economics, general economics and Bangladesh economy and on abstracts and reviews of related publications.
- Each article should accompany an abstract in not more than 100 words for sending it to international journals of abstractions.
- Typing of both text and footnotes should be double-spaced in only one side of the paper and text should not be more than 20 pages. Articles should be submitted both in hard and soft copies.
- All references should be listed at the end of the paper.
- Full name of the contributor, his/her affiliation and complete correspondence address should be mentioned.
- All materials of publications in the journal should be sent in triplicate.
