PROCEEDINGS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION

The School Board of Independent School District #2215 held its regular board meeting on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. in Twin Valley, MN.

Meeting was called to order by Vice-Chairperson Nelson.

Pledge of Allegiance.

Members present: Sather, Stene, Douville, Nelson. Absent: Opsahl.

Also present: Superintendent Lundin, H.S. Dean of Students Hoseth, Elementary Dean of Students Dustin Flaten, Eden Mickelson, St. Council Representative, Mark Askelson –KRJB Radio, Sherrie Nogowski, Dillon Lundin, Mari Jo Vik, LaVon Olson.

Motioned byDouville, second by Stene to approve the amended agenda as follows:

Vice-Chairperson Nelson welcomed all visitors.

Motion byDouville, second by Stene to approve the October 20, 2015 Regular Board Minutes as presented.

Discussion: None. All in favor. Motion carried.

District Contributions

$1,000 donation from P & F Machining. Donation split between Class 2017 and 6th grade class.

Pine to Prairie

No report. Meeting cancelled.

St. Council Report

Eden Mickelson reported on St. Council activity. Veteran’s Day Program went well and there will be an upcoming Blood Drive. The Senior Class is also sponsoring Donkey Basketball on Nov. 24th.

Long Range Planning

FJJ Company couldn’t attend the meeting as they had conflicts. Supt. Lundin will get in touch with them and set a date with all board members to discuss their facilities assessment report on our maintenance projects.

Total enrollment of 287 students. High School: 143 Elementary: 144

Financial Reports/Approval of Bills/Electronic Transfers

Motion by Sather, second byDouvilleto approve the payments of checks #33471-33545 and all electronic transfers and wires of $89,139.50(payroll) and $300,000.00 (MSDLAF) as presented.

Cheerleading Coach

Motion by Sather, second by Stene to approve the recommendation of Steve Radniecki, A.D. to hire Kaylie Bekkerus as Cheerleading Coach for the 2015-2016 year with the NCE share of cost.

Van Purchase

Motion by Douville, second by Stene to approve the purchase of a 2016 Dodge Caravan from

Kellys Chrysler in Ada.

Discussion: None. All in favor. Motion carried.

Elementary Dean of Students

  1. Parent-Teacher Conferences had an 86% turnout.
  2. Book Fair sold $4,492.00. Thanks to staff and volunteers who helped with this.
  3. The “Pledge of Allegiance” and “The Promise” are said over the intercom each morning by

the students. “The Promise” is quotes on anti-bullying.

  1. Backpack Program has 17 students enrolled. The elementary will also take hats, gloves,

snowpants, and coats to use at the elementary.

  1. Grades K-2 will attend the play at MSUM on Nov. 18. KRJB Radio will interview the 1st

Grade for Christmas with the Kids.

  1. Veteran’s Day Program – the students did a great job.

High School Dean of Students

  1. Senior Class went to Bemidji for a Career Expo. Rhoda Habedank also took

students on a four college visit around the Duluth area.

  1. ASVAB Tests will be Nov. 17th. Six students are now tutors. Noon Study Hall

has had a 52% usage.

  1. Parent Teacher Conferences had a 47% attendance by parents. New teachers

have attended training and workshops.

  1. Veteran’s Day Program was well attended and the students did a wonderful job.

Thanks to Gary Ward and Kim Bommersbach for the music and Bridget Sather for

and the St. Council for all their effort on a great program.

  1. Girls and boys basketball has started and Football and Volleyball Awards Nights

are scheduled.

  1. Junior Class is sponsoring Donkey Basketball on Nov. 24th at 6:30. Winter concert

is Dec. 14th at 7 p.m. Honor Roll is out and 2/3 of our students have made the

Honor Roll.

Superintendent

  1. Supt. Lundin informed the board that the bookkeeping position has become

overwhelming with audits and reports to the state. We need to look into

see what help is available to alleviate some of the tasks and pressure on this

position.

  1. A elementary custodian will soon be hired.

SPECIAL MEETING.

November 16, 2015

A Special Meeting of the Norman County East School Board was called to order by Vice-Chairman Nelson at 6:05 p.m.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the World’s Best Workforce Report.

JoleeHabedank gave a presentation on this report. With this report the district will need to have a Standards and Accountability Committee Meeting. The district’s plan is linked on the district website.

Jolee explained the requirements of the plan, the goals of our 2014-2015 plan and if we have met our required goals.

Discussion was held on our programs to increase reading proficiency. Jolee showed the 2015-2016 ideas with goals.

Motion by Stene, second by Sather to approve the World’s Best Workforce Plan for 2014-2015.

Discussion: None. All in favor. Motion approved.

Vice-Chairperson Nelson adjourned the meeting at 7:05 p.m.
