Policy statements for United States History Honors, text: The Americans, United States History and U.S. History in the 1960's, text: Takin’ it to the Streets.

Instructor: Mrs. M.A. Camarda ()

Introduction: This policy statement has been written so everyone is aware of what is expected in this subject class. You are expected to be familiar with its contents and the contents of your Maclay School Handbook. After reading, please sign it and have your parents read and sign it, as well.

Classroom deportment: You are to arrive to class on time, or if tardy with a pass. Please go to your seat quietlyand prepare your text, notebook and homework on your desk. All handbags and backpacks should be placed on the floor near your desk. Please remember to raise your hand and wait to be recognized, please don't call out as the lesson progresses. Please do not adjust blinds, desks, or thermostat without my permission.

School Rules: Abide by the handbook especially for absences, tardiness, gum, food and drink (except bottled water) and use of electronic devices in the classroom. The use of electronic devices in class including but not limited to cell phones, music players, hand held games and cameras is prohibited There may be times when as a class assignment, you can be asked to use your device by me. You are to leave your cell phone in the class when you use the restroom. If this violation occurs your device will be given to Mr. Andrews and you will need to retrieve it from him after school and/ or serve a lunch detention for me. Please dress in a manner that follows Maclay's dress code. Grade deductions and or detention will be applied as outlined in the handbook for tardiness and unexcused absences. An unexcused absence will lower your grade by 0.3 per occurrence and unexcused tardy will result in a 0.1 deduction per occurrence.

If you are absent for a test you must see me or email me to arrange a make up test time. All tests should be made up as soon as possible. They should be made up during your study hall of afterschool. If you miss a portion of the day and miss a test you must see me to make arrangements to take the test that day or pre-arrange a time if you know you will be missing the test period. Not to follow such procedures will cause make up tests to be more difficult.

Academics: Assignments will be made regularly throughout the school year. Reading will be assigned on a daily basis and when there is not a written assignment students should develop notes from the readings or work on their vocabulary sheets or review sheets. Note taking is expected from all students as the lesson proceeds. Lessons will vary. For the most, and in keeping with the principles of a college prep institution, class lectures will be given. They will be interwoven with questions and answer sessions. And, at any time, the student can expect a pop quiz on the previous day’s readings. Some projects will be given and the will count as a test.

A minimum of three tests and or projects will be given in a nine-week period valued at 65% of the average. Quizzes and homework will be 35%. Homework is expected to be done for the day assigned. Homework grades will be kept by me in a paper gradebook. At the end of the nine weeks a homework quiz grade will be calculated and placed on the electronic gradebook. Late homework is not accepted for credit. If absent check the web page to get the assignment and you should do the work. If you are absent for a number of days a makeup calendar will be created. Please communicate with me so a reasonable calendar can be made.

Class participation is encouraged. A low level of participation will have a greater negative impact on student performance on tests, quizzes, and the course as a whole.
