Job Description

Learner Support – DartmoorLearning Centre

FIXED TERM CONTRACT

The full time position atDartmoorLearning Centre is for 35 hours per week and is on a fixed term contract until 31st March 2016. There will be a 3-month probationary period.

You will work directly to the Centre Manager atDartmoorLearning Centre and the line management structure will be provided in the POA Employee Handbook along with all relevant policies of the POA and POA Learning. .

Your primary aim is to support and develop learners to achieve their full potential, ensuring there is an open and friendly environment and you will contribute to the development of a learning culture within the centre and the region,ensuring learners are given access to quality information advice and guidance.

Duties and tasks

You will work directly to the Regional Centre Manager; the work will include the following:

  • Administrative duties including, inputting details onto databases and spreadsheets, producing statistical print outs on a monthly or quarterly basis for the centre manager, registering learners, maintaining accurate records.
  • Organise meetings, produce meeting minutes and ensure the centre meets its minimum opening requirements.
  • You will spend time supporting, teaching and mentoring learners to achieve their full potential, ensuring there is an open and friendly environment and you will contribute to the development of a learning culture within the centre.
  • Source potential funding streams.
  • Ensure that all requests for information are completed within the given deadlines.
  • Provide information advice and guidance to Matrix standard
  • Attendas and when required regional events that enhance the future development of POA Learning, where the event is outside of your region permission should be soughtfrom your centre manager; relevant feedback on the event to be given to your manager /team.

Performance management

  • Take part fully in the SPDR system using the guidelines and procedures in PSO 8450.
  • Maintain yourpersonal annual leave /TOIL cards.

Learning needs analysis

  • Compile with your manager a local learning needs analysis taking into account the base lines as identified in the ULF bid 2015/2016. Produce a new one annually by end of September and review quarterly.
  • Produce with your centre manager a centre prospectus of learning events for the coming year, update monthly and also provide information to designated person for inclusion on web site.

Statistical Monitoring

  • Produce individual and course specific statistical data returns to the manager on the templates provided by the dates given each quarter.

The reports should include the following;

- ULF Data

- Dates of all training events

- Courses by type e.g. basic skills etc. completed during previous year,

-Hours spent by learners in the centre and type of course

-Contact with learners in the work place and any sign posting of staff to learning on POA produced paper work

-Identify staff attending CPD learning events

-Record of steering group meetings and dissemination events

  • Ensure auditable records are kept at the local centre.

Data Protection (Oct 2001)

  • Ensure all cabinets are locked at the end of each working day.
  • Ensure any documents or information provided complies with POA Learning’s policies and requirements

I.T. Security Policy

  • Ensure all computer equipment is used securely and restrict access to the system to those who are authorised to access it.
  • Ensure all users sign IT policy document on first visit.
  • Ensure weekly checks are made and recorded on all web activity.

Learning Centre Development

  • Provide information to the local POA, other recognised unions and community partners about opportunities and developments in the centre.
  • Maintain and develop open & professional avenues of communication with all training providers and all areas of the establishment.

Develop links with staff families and within the local community to expand the potential for learning.

Projects

  • Undertake specific projects as and when identified by the project manager or an NEC rep responsible for learning.

Learner Tracking

  • Develop a workable local tracking system for all people accessing the learning centre ensuring the data collected meets all audit requirements

You are expected to undertake ULR training.

The recognised trade union of the POA is the GMB, although you are entitled to join a trade union of your choice.

The maximum salary is £21,752.03gross which is subject on a downward scale dependant on qualifications and experience. If you are seconded we will contribute to your employer for your release upto an agreed level, but your salary with your employer will remain the same.

Your learning, training and development opportunities may result in you being asked to work away from your normal work station.This will be kept to a minimum however travel and subsistence will be paid.

Access to a company pension scheme is also available, if directly employed by the POA.
