STATEMENT OF

COMMISSIONER ROBERT F. POWELSON

Now that the Commission has considered the Act 129 Energy Efficiency and Conservation plans for Duquesne and the First Energy Companies today, as well as for PECO Energy Company, PPL Electric Utilities and West Penn Power last week, I would like to reiterate something I said in my statements associated with each of those matters: the Commission will be monitoring the implementation of these plans very closely.

To that end, I would like to formally put each of these seven electric distribution companies on notice that the Commission will be inviting you in periodically to brief the Commissioners and appropriate staff on the ongoing progress of your efforts on these plans. At these meetings, we will expect to hear from the companies’ key personnel overseeing the plans.

Implementing these plans will be a massive undertaking and, to use a football analogy, will likely require calling more than a few audibles, so I believe an ongoing and open dialogue is essential to the ongoing success of the Commonwealth’s efforts to meet the electric consumption reduction targets set forth in Act 129. In my view, we can ill afford to fail consumers in meeting these targets.
