Payroll Manager – Chester County, PA

Our client is seeking a Payroll Manager to join their organization. As a member of the Corporate HR organization, this position will report directly to the VP of HR and is located in their corporate headquarters.

The Payroll Manager will be responsible for the team management, oversight and accountability of Payroll Processing and Payroll Tax & Accounting. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develops the payroll strategy for the company, identify process and/or compliance gaps and responds in a timely manner to audit requests.
  • Manages all aspects of the company’s US payroll function. This includes payroll processing, payroll tax, garnishments, 401k, rate increases, payroll reporting, GL posting and account reconciliation. Provides guidance on payroll policies and procedures to all US locations. Processes the organization’s Leadership Team payroll on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Manages the in-house payroll processing operations within a multi-pay, multi-state, multi-entity environment, and multi-system environment.
  • Ensures the on time and accurate issuance of payroll payments and related reports for weekly, monthly and special payrolls.
  • Ensures that all internal and external guidelines and deadlines are met.
  • Ensures the appropriate level of controls and confidentiality, as well as establishing and monitoring internal controls and procedures.
  • Participates in payroll audits by 3rd party firms, including 401k audits, worker’s compensation audits. Provide technical payroll expertise and analysis as needed to HR, Accounting and other senior management in audit, budget, compliance, and tax reporting discrepancies. Identifies and implements improved internal controls and processing efficiencies.
  • Collect, review, and analyze payroll information to effectively administer involuntary deductions from pay such as child support, federal and state tax levies, bankruptcy orders, and wage garnishments ensuring timely payments. Perform various banking functions. Provide support to US HR Team on same.
  • Performs company-wide year end payroll functions including W-2 preparation, SSA filing, State filings and annual tax reconciliations.
  • Provides system support and training to users; reporting, employee set up, etc.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

  • At least 8 years of payroll experience with at least 3 years managing payroll is required. Lawson experience preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or related field, from an accredited college or university, is required. Certified Payroll Professional highly preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of payroll related concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem solving and time management skills, including ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently and meet established deadlines.
  • Strong accounting skills, advanced math and budgeting skills required.
  • Effective communication skills, including listening, written and verbal skills to express ideas, influence others and gain support.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, is required.
  • Experience in handling sensitive, confidential information.
  • Ability to manage and deliver on multiple priorities with time and resource pressures.
